Another range session today, to take advantage of our unseasonably warm weather. The good news? The Red Loctite held on the Optics Rail screws, with the rail remaining tight through another 100 rounds with the Arken EP8 mounted today. The Bad news? Accuracy did not noticeably improve, despite the Red Loctite and the use of a Caldwell "Stinger" Rifle Rest. Five-round groups @ 100m remained 3" to 4" with Bulk 150gr Military Surplus Ball ammo. I'm not sure how some of you guys are getting 2 MOA groups, unless you are shooting a 5.56mm SG 540, are shooting from 50m, or are counting only 3-round groups. There has to be some explanation for the difference in group sizes....
Next up I m going to try to remove the Flash Hider and replace it with a recoil-reducing brake of some sort. This will eliminate the possibility of a misaligned Flash Hider resulting in exiting bullet strikes. The other option is to try some lighter .308 loads in the 130 or 140 gr range. Aside from those two alternatives, I am about our of ideas....
Watch and shoot...
