The AR-15 is made non-restricted overnight, what changes happen?

I will not get mad or happy about any of this till June. But damn straight that I will buy an AR the second I have the money if that happens.

I remember all the rumors that the CZ-858 and Swiss Arms might go prohibited and many said, no that can't happen, the government has already cleared the rifles and besides it would cost the government to much to compensate people.....then they went prohibited, with no clear end in sight.

So maybe these rumors will turn out not to be rumors after all.

I've had an RPAL since 2005, but have not exercised the option, because there is to much government oversight. Nothing but unrestricted firearms in this house.

I think it's just the NFA drumming up attention and getting people talking again, but if it helps get the conversation started again, why not? I'd love to see the day where I could take the Stag 3R up to my cabin. Not holding my breath, but I'd love to see it!

No. The fact that it is on the restricted list saves it from being turned into prohib overnight.

Leave it restricted but remove the ATT and registration part of the restricted class. In other words, the only difference between non restricted and restricted would be requiring the PAL and RPAL (with the associated courses) to possess.

I don't see Canada ever departing from the licensing system so this would be the best compromise IMO. Then again, I'm a realist.

And of course not being able to take it to the bush. Taking away an ATT doesn't change the fact that you can only shoot it at a CFO approved range.

There needs to be some type of license to help screen people so criminals and people with psychological issues don't get to just walk in and buy an AR-15.

Anyone too dangerous to be trusted with possession of a firearm is too dangerous to be allowed his freedom, period. Focus on the small number of criminals and not the millions of lawful citizens.

Bingo.

That's why free access to firearms must be the cornerstone of a free nation.

The lefties are literally being forced at gun point to ask the question: what is the point of restricting the AR?

Every second .22 rimfire is a cosmetic clone of the AR. You can pimp and SKS into a black rifle. In the real world we don't get many mass shootings up in Canada. Also in the real world, I suspect a metric TON of AR's and handguns are going to to the gopher patches and into the backwoods to be shot just like regular sporting arms. What of it? Nor can you polish this turd anymore. Gun control doesn't work.

It pees me off no end: we finally have the mythical 'Do It All Rifle'. Why can't I shoot gophers with it? Or swap an upper and shoot deer?

We have one more hurdle to help the liberals and stupid people get over. There is this idea that there are 'good guns' and 'bad guns'. They are all the same depending on who is using them. Once they understand that, we are halfway home. The other thing they need to know is that shooting is a healthy and wholesome sport. Period.

Well my not?

You've got the NR SANS - an AR with a 18.5 + barrel is exactly the same

Hummm, well not exactly ... but kinda .... hummmm actually not even close - but ya get the picture.
