WOWOWWOWOW! nice. Let me know if I can make something like that sometime with your help. I assume that's a "real" M1 socom II. Very rugged and I bet it's tough as nails.

Wow, there are 2x very nice rifles. Well done lads.

This should get those sitting on the fence moving on ordering one of these babies, boyds walnut ($150 landed) , M1a.ca spring guide.....some will like this, others will not

New here, so I figure I could jump right in and join the fun.

This is the Garand I bought at a gun show this past February. The serial number placed it as manufactured in February, 1942.

I haven't fired it much, but enough to know it kicks pretty good and could be quite a fun gun to use more often. But I'm a little leery at the moment, as I only have ammo right off the store shelf and I was advised not to use it with the Garand if I can avoid it.

Thanks to Ebay, I also got my hands on a bunch more clips and an ammo belt.

See if you can find an adjustable gas plug system. It will allow you to shoot bullets of heavier weights. There is a fellow in the milsurp EE who is selling some. That should prevent any op rod damage.

Thanks for the advice!

I also just noticed, that this particular section is for "post WW2" firearms.........oops!

If I was "scanning for the bad guys" I think I'd be using that EBR, but what do I know?

My 3 Shortys

They show 3 ways to get a M305 with your barrel at 18.5 inch's . Two are factory versions and one is done by cutting a 22 inch barrel down and then rethreading the muzzle.

Top – Factory Norinco Shorty 18.5 in barrel ,Ultimak front rail , Eotech 511 red dot , USGI fiberglass stock, M1 Garand rear sights ,
Turner Saddlery sling, Springfield Armory muzzle brake , Unitized gas system , Rauch op rod spring guide

Middle – Dominion Arms Socom 18 (my newest addition)The first Socom I received looked great but jammed consistently while feeding....
Exchanged it and ... Very poor quality control on this build. All the old problems showed up again on this one.
And this was a replacement rifle on top of it all ....ouch.
Its missing the gas locking ring with front sight in the pic as they still make some with the sight base milled at an angle ( DUH ) . New one on the way.
I need that barrel vice of Barney,s as well because the barrel is over indexed too. .
So for now I installed an ordinary gas locking ring so I can test fire it tommorow.
After that gets that out of the way a set of Garand sights go on because as usual the rear sights are junk .
Then a new op rod spring guide go on and the barrel gets peened to tighten up the guide.
The tail of the gas piston was rubbing on the inside of the gas cylinder a bit . I had to smooth the surface just to get the piston to drop and to pass the tilt test . Firing a few rounds through it probably would have done the same thing .
Good thing I enjoy working on these ....
Not sure what stock I want to put on it yet .... CQDF (Close Quarter Deer Fighting ) comes to mind ..lol

Bottom – Norinco M-305, Promag Archangel stock ,Arms 18 scope mount. Arms 22 rings with throw levers , Bushnell 10 x scope ,
Gas locking ring with front sight, Harris bipod , upgraded the op rod spring guide.
It was a 22 inch barrel version and Doug at Ellwoods cut and recrowned the barrel to 18. 5 in long Then rethreaded it to 28 TPI x 50
I still need to get a muzzle brake for it

I like basic. Traditional.

1950's Springfield Armory in .30-06:

Harnington & Richardson parts kit on a 2005 Norinco with a Douglas med profile bbl:

1943 SA, .30-06:

Oh, and a 2007 Norinco with USGI parts except for the barrelled receiver in a Troy stock. This has the least amount of "soul" of an M14 I've ever owned. I sold it shortly after I finished building it.
