I disagree with Andrew's opinion most of the time but when he does a study, it is usually unbiased and well done so I trust that about him at least.

I bought one, both Griffins, an FSC556, a TTO and a couple others at the same time. Took them to an indoor range and tested them all on two nearly identical uppers. I still have the FSC556 and the TTO.
None of them are anywhere near the performance of a muzzle brake though. Throwing a brake into the test screws everything up; the compensators all feel like their doing hardly anything after firing with the brake, and their differences are hardly noticeable.

Everything else is junk compared to the surefire 556.
The battlecomp was a bad joke, still loud, very "flashy", and poor recoil reduction.
The AAC, nea, Pws, triple tap, etc. didn't offer the same kind of recoil reduction as the surefire for me.
I'd like to try a kac mams yet.

I always look at the physics of the device....how much surface area is there to catch or redirect the gas. Look at JP for an example of a really effective brake, lots of surface area for the gas to act on. I think most comps try to do too much and end up not being very effective at anything....A2 really is quite effective as a comp and flashider. It's hard to find something better IMHO and I've started going back to them.
I lump the surefire in with the "comps" because of its small size and weight.
All things considered, it's tough to beat.

Actually, there are a number if brake that are popular with the 3 gunners down south that are comparable in size and perform better. Ones that vent backwards like the Hammerhead or Titan are more effective. 21st century gunfighter tested a bunch of brakes and comps and found that the Titan supressed the flash as well as many of the comps. The vids are posted on here somewhere...

The dirty little secret of muzzle devices is that they should be optimized to specific barrel lengths. The same device will have very different muzzle movement characteristics between the spectrum of barrel lengths available. A comp on a 10.5" can over compensate badly but work perfectly on a 16". Manufacturers are doing a disservice to their customers (or they are too lame to admit they don't know what they are doing) by not disclosing their design and test parameters.
