The Beginnings of a Mannlicher Stocked Rifle Collection.....

Was it still too heavy after the face lift?

To me, yes...(and also the LOP was still too long for my Canadian cold weather hunting clothes...although easy enough to fix with removal of the recoil pad, so it moved to another home) but my experience with Chris Griesbach was all top notch and I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking custom work.

To me, yes...(and also the LOP was still too long for my Canadian cold weather hunting clothes...although easy enough to fix with removal of the recoil pad) so it moved to another home...and then another. But its final owner is very happy with it. It was a remarkably accurate rifle and to some people that can trump anything. However, I want rifles that "handle" as well and that is hard to define and a very personal thing.

I also never liked the way the wood grain ran in that stock (downhill instead of uphill, if you know what I mean) ...and neither did Chris...so he put in an invisible reinforcing bolt down through the center of the grip to make sure there would be no problems down the road with the thinner stock.

However, to be clear, my experience with Chris Griesbach was all top notch and I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking custom work.

You'd think with all of that stock recontouring and work, someone would have checked and adjusted the LOP?

I thought I'd keep the factory LOP. I thought I could live with it. It was great for t-shirt summer shooting.
But I was wrong.

Yes, I dropped the ball on that. I thought I'd keep the stock LOP. I thought I could live with it. (It was fine for t-shirt summer shooting.) But I was wrong.

Fortunately there is always another rifle calling our name...
