Alright you cx4 experts. I'm back, albeit 7 months after my last cx4 post. Finally got around to re-adjusting the SP trigger screw to solve my fail to fire (which is actually a random fail to reset the trigger) problem. Unscrewed the trigger screw to allow more slack, reinstalled it all, and the trigger reset on the work bench every time. Took it to the range (hours out in the bush) and it fired a single round then would not reset with live ammo. It only fired one round and I could not get it to reset again, at least with a magazine and live rounds. I could get it to reset every time WITHOUT a mag installed.
Any wise clues that I can use to help trouble shoot this problem?
###Anyone been able to achieve 1500 + fps with handloads using slower burning powders? Willing to share your recipe?
It's a blowback action, so super hot loads are not going to do much other than wear it our prematurely. Enjoy it for what it is, a range plinker. It is not a replacement for a .223 cartridge.
Well, with a well placed shot, even .22 LR will take down a deer. For a close shot, a 9 mm will do the job, but I think it is not the best choice for quickly and humanly killing a deer.
Problem with the 9 mm case is it is so small, most slow burning powders will result in highly compressed loads sending pressures off the map with normal 115g or 124g bullets. I know I looked into it with my own CX-4. Might be better looking at lighter bullets to increase muzzle velocity with normal loads. I have some 90 grain bullets that zip out pretty hard. No idea of actual muzzle velocity as I don't have a chronograph, but betting 1500 fps plus. Hornady 90 gr XTP. 7.2 grains of Power Pistol shows 1400 out of a pistol, so out of a CX-4, should get you to 1500 fps easily.
