The best headlight/flashlight you've owned.

Petzl are very well built and reliable....

Petzl for headlamps as others have said.

Petzl for headlamp
Fenix for flashlight (forgot which model I believe PD35, the one close to 1000 lumens)
Streamlight TLR1 HL for gun lights

I had one of those for about the same time span. Just last year it quit. I tried fixing it but no luck. Was heart broken. Lol. But my kids bought me a Petzl for Father's Day and it's amazing. New fave.

A friend gave me a Petzl "Pixa 3" and it is the best headlight I have ever used. The wife uses a Petzl for running, too.

The people have spoken ! Petzl all the way ! love mine, burn time/lumins is incredible

Very comfortable and light weight too

I am a certified light nut lol. I've owned and do own several. The headlight I am really pleased with is the Pelican 2690 Led. The flashlight I am using the most is also a Pelican, a 2360 led. Having said this, I keep a couple of the latest model energizer led headlamps in the quad and they are really good lights for the money spent.

Petzl is what I use...I live on a farm and checking cattle, doing chores etc they are awesome...throw a couple Lithium batteries in it and 35 below weather forever no problem....just make sure to get the higher Lumens one

Petzl for my Headlamps. Zebra SC52 powered by 14500 Lithium. A must have powerful little light. One is always in my jacket pocket with another handy in the console of my truck.

The 3 pack of cheap headlamps I got at Costco for $25-$30 3 yrs have worked better and lasted longer than the Petzl I got at MEC, surprised me actually. The petzl must have been a dud as my wife's petzl is still going strong.

Depends on how much your wallet can stand. I've got a bunch, mostly elcheapos, that are kicking around the house, the car, and in the semi. It seems that everybody I run into in the trucking industry is running headlamps now. From mechanics to drivers, they're all wandering around at night with their headlamps on. Very handy when it's -20 and you've got to wrench on a broken truck on the shoulder of the road, and you've run out of hands to hold a flashlight.

I haven't spent more than $30 on a headlamp, because if I lose it, or it gets broken, I'm not out many dollars.

I can see the guys that are hardcore hunters, or hunt of a lifetime guys, spending a lot of hard earned scratch on highend items, but I've noticed in the last few years that the LED light market has really come a long way, and the options now are superior to the early lights that had weird wavelengths, or something.

My suggestion would be to go and buy a few different sets, and give them all a try. That way you get to choose what works best for yourself, and you have some backups for just in case.

Just about any petzl head lamp works very well, I've also had great luck with black diamond.
As for flashlights, nothing but the best, surefire.
Just pick the model that best suits your needs. Personally I don't believe in the lumens race, 1700 lumens on an edc flashlight seems a little silly to me, but as a truck light it would be great. Your situation and needs will dictate what specific model, size, and output you should get.

I personally love black diamond ones, they seem to get very good battery usage for amazing lumens. I drive my boat in nov to go duck hunting using it as my only light, used ski touring. My brother has also used his for a month long expedition in the Himalayas, only went through 2 sets of batteries at 4000m. That being said I would say any mountaineering company makes good ones, it all depends on what your price range is, however the more you spend the better it will be. Just don't get the exact same one with the exact same strap as your ski touring buddies/ hunting buddies- it sucks when someone loses theirs and it all of a sudden becomes musical headlamps.
I will admit I am prejudiced to black diamond because my brother gets the pro form though.

I have 2 energizer brand, they came in a 2 pack, bought them to do some night fishing over 15 yrs ago. They've been through hell and back and still work fine...only paid 20$ for the pair.

Wish I could say the same about mine. Lasted about 5 years being roughed up in heavy construction.

I have a Petzl Atex for work and a Streamlight Sidewinder Compact 2 for everything else. The Sidewinder Compact is cool because its handy mounted or dismounted on the headband, and can use CR123 batteries and AA batteries without having to add a spacer tube.
