Love the Grizzly’s but I won’t call it the best shotgun in the world. No Norinco love? Tough crowd
If it had the steel receiver like a Wingmaster it would be perfect. If the Wingmaster had dual extractors and a bolt on ejector {edit} and the thumb safety like the 590A1, then it would be perfect.Nothing comes close to a 590A1 in terms of durability, reliability, serviceability, and modularity.
Can't disagree with that.If it had the steel receiver like a Wingmaster it would be perfect. If the Wingmaster had dual extractors and a bolt on ejector like the 590A1, then it would be perfect.
Some may argue otherwise, but in my experience a single action bar just isn't as reliable and confidence inspiring.Despite my username, Ithaca 37 master race.
Steel receiver, and a much thicker one than the 870 at that, despite that the gun is lighter in weight than most.
The lifter stays out of the way.
The receiver is 1.5 to 1.25 inches shorter than on the 870 and Mossberg, depending on version, which shortens the effective reach to the fore end and helps make the handling a bit more lively.
The factory safety button is raised and the action release is easy to get to.
The action tends to be smoother than on the 870 and Mossberg.
Dual extractors, granted only one of them is sprung beyond the early years.
Extremely positive ejection, gravity assisted.
About the only real downside is that port loading is more difficult, especially if you have thick fingers or are wearing gloves.
It's a thick bar though, and I've never had an issue. Some may argue otherwise, but in my experience a single action bar just isn't as reliable and confidence inspiring.
'37s are cool though. They do handle nicely.
It's just physics. Dual bars spreads put the load, and there is less room for error in terms of binding and sticking. It's a thick bar though, and I've never had an issue.
If you did it was probably due to a manufacturing defect.
As I understand it, dual bars are something that's mainly justified by helping to compensate for the degree of slop inherent in the 870's slide-in barrel fit. It's just physics. Dual bars spreads put the load, and there is less room for error in terms of binding and sticking.
You guys talking about this made me get my Stevens 350 out. I would have said it is a complete clone of the Ithaca 37 but it has dual action bars, so it is not as perfect a copy as I thought. While the Stevens is a low budget chicom gun with some rough edges, the 37 design certainly is excellent overall and it is a favourite to carry in the bush for anti-bear duty.As I understand it, dual bars are something that's mainly justified by helping to compensate for the degree of slop inherent in the 870's slide-in barrel fit.
Whereas the 37, with its more precise and repeatable interrupted thread method doesn't really need it.
The build construction may not be there comparatively to the mentions here.... BUT i think the Winchester SXP has the best action design by far.
IMO 870s suffer from weak ejections and 500s/590s have an unapologetically complicated trigger pack.
The Model 12?I've been away from this forum for... 4 or 5 years and I come back to this. The best pump shotgun ever produced has not even been mentioned.
The Remington 887 is definitely what hes referencing lolIts weird to me that to say something hasn't been mentioned then expect everyone to guess what in the #### they are referencing....
