The MRA Renegade MK II and MRA Maverick are Canada’s straight-pull, bolt-action, utility rifles.

Designed for versatility, the MRA Rifles are well-suited for various activities, including hunting, varmint control, competitive shooting, and recreational shooting. Classified as non-restricted (FRN#198524, FRN#197052), they provide owners the freedom to use their rifles in most locations. The Renegade MK II or Maverick, is available as a complete rifle or as a Receiver Kit, enabling owners to build their own non-restricted rifle using our proprietary parts kit along with a wide range of compatible third-party components.

The heart of the MRA rifles is the innovative and unique straight-pull, spring-assisted, manually operated bolt carrier group. This design is quick and easy to operate, delivering consistent performance with a proven track record of reliability. The charging handle can be effortlessly swapped to either the left or right-hand side, providing versatility for all users.

The Renegade MK II is chambered in 223 Wylde and 300 BLK and offered in barrel lengths of 12.5″, 16.1″ and 19″.

The Maverick is chambered in .308 Win and comes in 12.5″, 16.1″ and 20″ in barrel lengths OR 6.5 Creedmoor in 20" and 24" barrel lengths.

How can I change the caliber on my Renegade rifle?
  • To convert from .223 to 300 Blackout the only thing that has to be changed is the barrel itself; a relatively easy job, two bolts for the handguard and then the barrel nut.
  • Converting the .223 rifle to 7.62x39 is more involved as you then have to replace the bolt and the magazine as well as the barrel. Still not a big job, just a bit more money on parts. The bolt carrier and firing pin remain the same, although some prefer a different firing pin as well for the military ammo.
  • It’s the same for other calibers that will fit in a .223/5.56 magwell, i.e. 6.5 Grendel, .224 Valkyrie, .458 SOCOM, .450 Bushmaster etc. it will depend on the parent case and what the case head is compared to a .223. MOST will require a caliber specific bolt, barrel and magazine, while retaining all the rest of the rifle: handguard upper receiver and bottom metal, stock & bolt carrier assembly.
How can I change the caliber on my Maverick rifle?
  • To convert from .308 Win to 6.5 Creedmoor the only thing that has to be changed is the barrel itself; a relatively easy job, two bolts for the handguard and then the barrel nut. The same goes for other calibers that have either .308 Win or 6.5 CM as the parent case, e.g. .338 Federal & 8.6 Blackout, 7mm-08, 260 Rem, 243 Win etc
  • To convert to another cartridge with a different parent case: e.g..22-250 Rem, .220 Swift, .45 Raptor, .45-70 Government etc. then the bolt and barrel and often the magazine will also need to be swapped for the caliber conversion.

Maple Ridge Armoury currently only makes the rifles and barrel/bolt combo in .223 or 300BLK, and 308 or 6.5CM so if you want a different caliber than this you will need to source them yourself from one of many excellent firearms retailers across the country.

What magazines are compatible with the Renegade?
  • ANY AR15 compatible magazine for example:
    • LAR pistol mags
    • PMAGs
    • STANAG mags
    • Cross Mags
    • Duramags
    • even the BCL MRX magazine can work in the Renegade

What magazines are compatible with the Maverick?
  • ANY AR10/SR25 compatible magazine

Bonus question: If I have a 30 round Magpul PMag that is pinned to only hold 5 rounds, can I take the pin out if I am using it in the Renegade? (Yes, we do get asked this)
  • NO. The magazine is considered a centrefire semi-auto magazine and as such must remain pinned or become a prohibited device.

If the bolt is not fully in battery, what prevents it from firing?
The bolt carrier itself will block the hammer from striking the firing pin unless it is fully in battery. A large spring keeps forward pressure on the bolt right up until full lock-up.

There are a very wide variety of aftermarket stocks, grips and accessories available for AR pattern rifles and they will almost all fit the MRA rifles. The MRA handguard has MLOK slots the full length of the handguard at the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions, this will allow the attachment of various bipods front grips, tactical flashlights etc. There is a small section of picatinny rail at the front of the handguard for a front sight if you choose. The receiver has a full picatinny rail on top. The buffer tube is milspec and will accept any stock that is made for Milspec carbine length tubes. The receiver can also accept a milspec rifle length buffer tube. Aftermarket triggers are available and a simple swap. Any trigger that fits an AR15 will fit in a Renegade or Maverick rifle. Cerakote services in a wide range of colours are available.
