The black bear king of the internet thread.

congrats.

still wondered what kind of food those bears are getting to be that big ...

Once they hit a certain size; any darn thing they want. Our bears are mostly taken on my north place; and they can have anything from beaver to bison just by walking around with their mouths open. Then there's the normal agricultural crops, of which oats seems to be a favourite. Several could make a decent living just scarfing down my bear and deer baits. From what I've seen, they aren't shy about eating each other.

I'm up against a national park and the bears think they have diplomatic immunity. :)

11 yards crossbow on the 31st. In this part of Manitoba, a colour phase of any type is extremely rare and the blonde phase is a first for anyone we know hunting the area. 40 yard recovery and partner arrowed a second bear 10 mins later with arrows in the ground 5 feet apart. Amazing night in the bush

Great pic! I'm heading out in a hour for my spring hunt.

nice. from a stand or stalking?

one that i posted on another thread but worth to be posted here and not for the size but the colour:

a Lady, a 30-06 FS and a bear all that in the Yukon... not for non-hunters ... pic on

again a boring story ....

just came back from a little gem spot in our territory where we saw black bears and a lot of grizzly tracks ... and moose ...

before i continue as we are on the hunting part of the forum if you have any anger problem against hunters do not post here.

now as some may remember i found a load of Varget that worked very well with my wife full stock. that load was over the max limit (.01 grain) but very safe in her rifle. it was with a 200 grains nosler partition again a boring combination ... a little overkill for a black bear but again very accurate and who knows what other game can show up ....

it was around 6pm yesterday on that place that we saw that light blonde bear, he was feeding on grass and was not aware of us not even 40 meters from him. it was in a little clearing with a wood bordering that.

she decided to take it and i was here to back up just in case with the 375 ruger (a little more overkill but being in the wood with the new king is an experience every hunter should try once in his/her life).

well it was time for the shot, the bear didnt show any impact and ran away without time for a second shot or a back up and fled away and he was in the wood ...

after 20 minutes of waiting we found some blood very clear (thinking it was lung) and here we go in the wood to found some more light blood spots against some plants ...

then here it was just lying on the ground among broken branches, flowers and grass ...

hit a little in the back but still double lunged with a lot of blood sprayed on of his side. so we found him, the bullet didnt stay inside.

by no means this is a monster or a record book but this a nice bear with good meat that will be used.

to finish the story sorry to tell that no pictures here .... yes we forgot cameras and phones ...

will try to post a picture later ...

hope you enjoyed the reading.

Got my first black bear 2 weeks ago,was a GREAT day for me as when I heard the footsteps on the trail behind me I thought it was a friend come to see if I had seen anything, was my daughters first time seeing a bear in the wild.
My friend turned up later and taught me how to properly skin and gut this guy.
Used my 76 year old Husqvarna 8mm Mauser,1 shot took out the heart and lungs,he ran maybe 20-25yards and dropped.
I tried my hand at butchering for the first time with this guy as well, had an amazing roast last weekend, this weekend I made some meatloaf for dinner tonight, and a batch of burgers.

Well, it's not going to get me 'king of the internet' but I shot my first bear last week on a trip to northern BC with my brother. My brother lives in BC and was able to guide me as he has a few times now. I took this bear on the first night of the hunt and he went just a hair over 6' nose to tail.
I am super happy with this bear and am getting a rug done.
