The black bear king of the internet thread.

Now Hirsch, if one was to fire that cartridge from a square bridge Rigby Mauser bolt gun you MAY actually attain enough class to qualify for a big bear.........but who's going to chamber a Rigby for THAT cartridge.......Better off to just buy a Rem/CZ/Win in the H&H and go get a monster.........why tempt fate and mess with the Gods !!!!!

Well I might... :)

In all seriousness though, I have owned a .375 H&H. Loved the cartridge but when compared to the Ruger its pretty much is a wash performance wise. I sold the H&H because I didn't care for the rifle it came in (Browning A Bolt) but I still have the .375 Ruger because in my hands the lefty Hawkeye fits like a glove and handles like a dream.

Indeed as much as I enjoy playing the game here the .375 Ruger is a great cartridge, I cannot be a fan of the H&H and pretend the Ruger slinging the same bullets is somehow inferior. The Ruger has proven it has staying power and while it will never come close to being "The" .375 magnum, it is absolutely as good as the H&H in any rifle that feeds reliably.

This all said I've played with a couple .375 Rugers in the Alaskan and the big fat cartridge definitely doesn't feed as smoothly as an H&H. Many would say "And so what?" and still have a point. The Ruger's claim to fame is it fits in a standard action, but so does the H&H (Winchester, Remington, Kimber, Sako, Montana, infinite custom Mausers, and more have all put them in their standard long action). In the end I see it as a well exploited commercial opportunity that works quite well.

It's all that tapered goodness that make them feedworthy, Just picked up two boxes worth, made my day. Grabbed a VX2 while I was at it. Life is good. :)

Paid less than 3 each (fed blue box) Got the rifle (in transit from AB) from CGN'er... Figured it will be here before the snow melts on the road up to my shooting spot (ranges are rare around here and not well equipped) Will be here next week sometimes I figure.

I am tickled pink to say the least.

Nice bears guys. Season opens here next week and can't wait. Got some good scouting done last weekend and set out baits plus got myself a sweet setup for my stand overlooking one of my baits and a good section of logging road. Never thought to hunt a road from a stand but seems to be pretty common in the area. Anyway got my bow/selected rifle ready to go for the first crack at it next Sunday.

Good luck Jongun

I hope to get at least one more try in this year.

Thanks bud. Hopefully you're able to get out and take a nice one. For me I'm gonna do my best weekend hunting til the end of the month and if I'm not successful I'm taking some time off to make sure I at least get some meat. The tracks that I've seen near my "sweet" stand are what I believe to be a larger boar so definitely high hopes for that spot. Unfortunately wasn't able to get out this past weekend but baiting heavy next weekend and hanging out my two 10kg a piece bear suckers. Looking forward to seeing how the bears react to a 20lb+ piece of candy hanging from a tree.

Ted..........you're confused, that's not a black bear...........that's black bear food. Bears are big and furry and usually inhabit dry land............now go out and try again, and try to get it right this time !!!:p:p:p:p

Nice laker by the way...........

I thought it would try casting a four inch Buzz Bomb, and that's what came up! I'll try again with a, let's see, a big flatfish! Bears might take that........
