The black bear king of the internet thread.

Nice work Tazzy, love the iron sights hunting. Still haven't found my monster, keep coming up shy of making the finger itch so far.

Thanks, I'll be more selective on my next bear. I'll buy another tag in a couple of weeks. We have lots of bears here in NB. I like watching your videos BTW.

I think your bear's great, and very slick with irons and your cast. Don't take my present selectivity wrong, I just planned to take a good deal of time off black bears except for work and this thread has me hunting for a brute. I'm avoiding the work unless it's a monster is all, BBQ hunting reasonably sized bears is as admirable as it gets in my eyes.

I wasn't offended in the least. I'm very happy with my bear. I just know that there are a lot bigger ones around and since we can shoot two a year I'll be more selective on the next one too.

It was one of my goals to bag one with the 45-70 and bullets I cast myself. It made for a great hunt and I only had to sit on the stand twice.

Well this bear is far from the king, and neither am I for this one, but I was more than happy to take this boar this morning after night shift. I was simply out for a cruise and a coffee hoping to spot a decent bear in one of the cuts close to home. This young fella happened to pop up on the edge of a small trail across from a swamp. I was lucky enough to squeeze off a good shot from my old Marlin model 1936 with 150gr Remington Core Lokts at about 80-100 yards. Got him in the lungs and he went about 10 yards. A quick drag through the black fly filled skies and he was in the truck, ready to be field dressed at home to avoid the bugs. Not sure of the weight, but I'd have to guess around 160-170 or so dressed. Since I'm not in contention for the "King of the Internet" I'm only going to add some pics of the bear. Should be some good eating!

I'll admit I haven't been on cgn much recently. I've been frequenting a couple traditional archery forums instead. I just discovered this thread so I'll post the bear I got on the weekend.

He's not a mature bear but my philosophy this year was that any legal bear was the right one. I sat in my stand a total of 8 minutes before this young fellow showed. I took my time and put a sharp 2 blade through both of his lungs and trimmed the top of his heart. He ran 50 yards to a 40' tree and scaled it in a few seconds. He clung to the very top of that tree for a few seconds until life left his body and he fell with a fantastic thud.

I was elated to get a bear with traditional archery tackle. This was my first animal of any kind with a bare bow. He's about 5' and my best guess is 175 pounds.
