If your club doesn't allow any more restricted check out our club the Guelph Rod and Gun. Our guys will help you with the paperwork too. There's a ton of restricted rifles and it's open every day except Sunday. :canadaFlag:

I could easily cast some decorative receivers out of scrap aluminum. If someone wanted to scratch or stamp a serial number on it and register it as an actual AR lower then I couldn't stop them.

I think I have a summer project planned. :D

I am in what do you think the cost would be? How Hard would it be to reg? once I stamp a serial number on it? I would go for 10 min

Well, the casting would in fact be dangerous to try and turn into a working lower. There would be a potential for voids (air pockets) in the castings and the metalurgical properties of piston-ium probably wouldn't be ideal for a working firearm. I wasn't going to worry about getting dimensions of the pattern exact either.

Another problem: I haven't checked in awhile, but I don't think you can transfer a homemade restricted firearm. Once you decide that you're going to turn that lump of aluminum into a receiver then you need to register it as a homemade firearm and it's yours for life.

I imagine some people would want to register a cheap decorative statue as a homemade AR-15 receiver though. It would be a sort of "place holder" in case AR's get banned and AR owners get grandfathered. Cost would probably be in the $15-$20 range as I'd be donating my time to art!
 
well they would'nt be firearms until the new owners declared them to be. Just make the casting obvioulsy not able to be a firearm.
 
I wonder if Norinco would sell just the receiver - a creative importer could make some cash on this, a stripped Norc CQ311 receiver sale!
 
Well, first off, thanks everyone for your thoughts, ideas and opinions.
After careful consideration, and much soul searching and wailing and gnashing of teeth, I have come to the following conclusion...

And, several of you have already mentioned it....


I'll simply have to get both..... So, as of now, I'm on the waiting list for a 180b-2 with Wolverine, I'm writing my restricted next week, and after the paperwork comes back and the dust settles, I'll be getting a 15 as well... One can never have to much black plastic in their closet after all... LOL


Thanks again for helping me make this costly (but completely enjoyable) decision!

Get a lower anyway! Join the ranks of the restricted semi owners, make it politically and economically unfeasible for any left-leaning knobs to further regulate evil non-duck hunting guns.
 
Just went this morning and challenged my restricted test. 100% pass :cool:

So, now I just have to sign the paperwork in blood and we should be good to go... LOL

So much to buy, so little money................. :rockOn:

I don't want to rain on your parade, but don't forget the cost of ammo. It's one thing for poor chumps like us to buy the gun, it's another to keep it fed. :(

Yeah, I know they are pigs....... The cost of all good hobbies are "restrictive", or "prohibitive"... pardon the pun..... LOL :D
