Well Silentrunner and I have been dreaming up a little project for some time now.

Thanks to his great machining and autocad skills we are close to reality...

We thought it might be nice to have a little pictorial history.

Here is a 3D model of Generation 1.

It uses a standard heavy M2 barrel.......later we will scale the barrels down........damned things weigh a ton!!

We hope to have the first one done by June.... Now I just need to build a HUGE park tank!!

Here is one of the first parts to come off the machining centre....other mockups in aluminum are done as well.. It uses a standard AR grip and trigger.

I use AutoCad 2000 because it is what I am used to. I also have Solid Works 2005, but am not familiar with it yet. Solid Works is a far superior product. Since I am self taught with CAD it will take me some time to learn it. The images you see are simply shaded. Much better quality images are available if the file is rendered.

I do all my machining at home as I have been collecting equipment for some time now. Later I will have a series of images to show the progression of different parts.

...wish I had a machine shop ;)
..I've only ever really used autocad once or twice, but personally I find solidworks a lot easier to use... its kinda neat 'cause you make objects in a similar fashion to how you would machine them...

..what kind of tools did you use to do the above machining?

BMG 50

I have a Bridgeport with digital readouts that the lower was made on. No special cutters, just 1/4 and 1/2 end mills, a radius cutter for rounding, drills and reams, etc. The bolt and barrel extension were made on my lathe (and mill for the lugs), I will get some pics of the aluminum prototypes later.

that is a very close approximation to the design we are using....

Mind you the trigger etc will be AR15 but modified a bit.

We are just going to leave the M2 barrel as is until we get any bugs out of the system.

Just what I need for those goddamn t-rexs that get in my garbage every thurs night  .just kidding very nice

i have shot lotsa different 50 , most without breaks. it doesnt seem to bother me much at all.
the hardest kicking rifle i have shot is a boyes, 55 AT rifle.
was lotsa fun, aquired about 200 rounds and a gun, shot most of it up in a few days, was great fun. pushed me back about 6" every time.
might not hurt that im a fairly large frame fella , i admit though, to.

Well Silent had the aluminum mockup out to the club this evening...
WOW!!

Everyone was blown away by both the size and the machining skills...

This thing is going to be great!

Here is the aluminum mockup bolt, receiver and barrel extention with the real barrel installed.........

Trust me there will be no offhand shooting.
