The Bren 2 - Making A Name For Itself In Modern Combat

The Bren 2 showed up in the second episode of Fubar Season 2. From the magwell grid pattern, rather then cross-hatching, I think this is the 5.56 version with a short mag, rather then the BR 7.62x51. Do you think this would have been the equivalent of the NR version that might have headed our way from the factory, had it not been banned?

Considering approximately 8 militaries use the Bren 2, Ukrainian forces generally seem to favor the rifle and are now producing it locally it would seem like the Russian forces' "total garbage" opinion of presumably battlefield pickups would at best be dubiously anecdotal and at worst meaningless propaganda.

Being adopted by a military does not make a gun ‘good’ . I’m not sure there is any Ukrainian forces using the Bren . They seem to all be nato/ mercenary soldiers. They use what they are issued and supplied with from home. Seeing full kit and rifles left behind after battle and soldiers picking up a rifle and tapping on it and laughing is not a good look. But you dont have to lie to justify buying a $3000 gun. If you like it fine but doesn’t mean it in the league of an AR15 or AK. Or Galil for that matter.

I have a friend who used a Bren 2 chambered in 5.56mm in a foreign fighter unit in Ukraine. This is not a friend of a friend, this is someone who I speak to directly. He spoke highly of it, saying it worked well and the other soldiers around him who used it felt it was a reliable, decent gun.

I'll take his opinion of the rifle over third hand Russian criticisms any day.

I am not sure if this is directed at my reply but I am fairly certain I made no statements or claims that would suggest any deceit, justification for purchase or any comparisons to other weapon platforms. I simply found the Russian hearsay(or perhaps yours?) opinion of " total garbage" as questionable or possibly poorly formulated.

I have taken the liberty to provide what seem to be credible links to hopefully support the veracity of my previous post. Ukrainian forces ( even outside of the Ukrainian International legion -I am assuming this what you refer to as mercenary/NATO soldiers) are pretty much using anything they can get their hands on including the Bren 2. That said "Tens of thousands of these rifles are already in service with Ukrainian forces" They do apparently like it them enough to have started local production under license from CZ . "The production of CZ Bren 2 assault rifles under the name "Sich" has started in Ukraine, and they are already being supplied to the Armed Forces...produced at Ukroboronprom facilities.."

I will append that like with almost any weapon system being battle-tested for the first time, it could still be improved, and the Bren 3 apparently largely addresses those concerns. I will also say that I have also read about some units having some issues. But to call it "garbage" is pretty hyperbolic.

Honestly I would find it more meaningful that hear JTF#'s actual experience (obviously not combat) with the Bren 2 rather than some questionably exaggerated Russian soldier's statements on a Telegram video.

That could be a Bren 3. That handguard and gas block position looks like the 14.5” version.

Sort of meaningless to us Canadians now, but interesting that a Bren 3 is featured in a show and being accessible by a movie armorer. Still not available in the U.S.
Although it's mostly filmed in Canada, that particular shot was likely done on location in the Czech Republic. I'm sure CZ was more the happy provide it, as it is free advertising.

JTF# is quite evidently a pro-Russian supporter of Putin's illegal invasion of Ukraine. Enough said! His opinions on military firearms are about as credible as his perspectives on international affairs.... which is to say, not at all.
