Just to clarify, I bought my gun last august, it shipped through through PR's agent Leroy's Big Valley Guns in Montana. My landed cost in Canadian $ was about 55% more that the invoiced selling price in US $. In other words if you buy a gun for $10000 US, you will be out of pocket about $15500 Can. by the time you have it in hand. The biggest single charge here by far is the exchange and bank charges. J.

I will but it's going to be a long, slow process. Mostly because I have just begun a FULL restoration of a Charles Daly Lindner that will drain the gun budget pretty nicely this year and I have a couple smaller items that were in process before I picked up the Lindner that need to get paid for. Realistically things will happen that are worth posting starting in 2018. I still need to eat! LOL
Exchange only kills you if you make the mistake of equating the two currencies because they are both called dollars.
If they were rubles or kroner, no one would think twice. FX isn't a fee or a tax and no one is making a profit on it (at least not directly on this hypothetical transaction). It is simply the expression of the variance of purchasing power in another currency.
Very good point. That's essentially what I do when I consider US guns. I got one back when the dollar was at par through Questar and that was a good deal.
As most have probably seen, there is another thread discussing the soft market for vintage guns. I have only been back shooting for a few years now, but it does seem like SxS's garner more nostalgia points then any other action type out there. That would make me think there will always be a decent market and demand for SxS's. Not sure if others agree or not, just my observation.
SxS and O/U have their own benefits if used right.
I liked because mine because it had:
- ejectors (so I could reload really quick and faster than pump if you consider mag restriction in hunting regs)
- no auto safety (same reason as above)
- 2 barrels so I could have different chokes and different shots (highly useful)
- 2 triggers that allow me quickly choose the barrel to shoot.

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread but kind of relevant...have any of the fellows that follow this thread ever imported a SxS directly from the UK? I have contacted a few sellers thru a UK gun trading site and their charges vary quite a bit.
