The CANADIAN Ruger Gunsight Scout Discussion Thread

thanks coho. might be the way I go. I'm still thinking about the XS sight full rail. they go for $90 down south plus another $50 for some decent rings. anyone try the XS rail? happy with it? I want to get this rifle set up before hunting season. I've got an elite 4200 2.5-10x 40. I want to mount it as low as possible and still keep the peep on for backup.

if you find a Canadian dealer who has them let me know

I think if you were going to try to top load the Ruger scout you'd need to start with the Alpha Industries Manufacturing magasines and go from there...

Who carries these magazines?

if you find a Canadian dealer who has them let me know

The XS full length top rail is available direct from Brownells. With the discount they are like $60 bucks or something.

Ruger Scout rifle

Bought one last year. Tried IVI 7.62 X 51 ammo....works fine....bought 500 rds. of chinese 7.62 steel cased ammo.....shoots fine but bolt is hard to open after firing....

I purchased a scout rifle last week and ,today in the rain I went to the range .First of all I dont like the magazine I bought the 5 round mag as well and paint was all over the brass from the magazine i presume ,and loading it is just poor actually just my opinion .The gun did shoot great .7 @ 92 yards and it shot consistently with 3 ammo types I settled on the 180 tbbc as my hunting load and they get along with my rifling ,apart from the magazine I love this gun little recoil and shoots house afire

Keep going, it will hold 12 easily & at 13 - its VERY tight but works. occasionally the magazine spring pressure will push the tangs apart a bit and try to pop the 13th out, but it works. that makes the rugger load 13+1 chambered.

Love this rifle !

I found the factory mags easy to load, i could get 11 in mine lol.

In the club now , threw a leupold 2-7 x 33 on quick detach warnes. sweet gun . still havent fired it yet.

Sweetness....new addition to the Ruger today, Leupold VX-R 4-12x40 CDS dial !

Now to get a cantilevered mount for it...

Got my ruger yesterday. Can't say it blew my mind. Decent rifle I guess, stock fit is sloppy and the bolt feels like its going to fall out when cycled. Guess I am too used to high end bolt guns.

I sure would be interested in scout scopes , but I have some reservations of putting one on my ruger scout .I plan on using the scout as a hunting tool , I understand about having more vision and picking up things around me ,but it has some drawbacks .One of them is being forward mounting it must catch more rain where it is less protected and unless you are using a rain guard you wont see much unless you continually clean.

I rarely hunt in the rain , but I have been caught in showers and after the rain the trees remain wet for hours ,just a thought that snow can accumulate just after one small pass through the limbs

My question is ,Have you guys experienced these issues? Minor, i understand but I lost a good buck after breaking through the spruce and unable to clear my traditional scope in time ,your thoughts please ,I dont want it to sound like ya just clear your scope because in real life you may need to shoot very quickly ,maybe not to shoot a deer ,but to save your life .

Also scope covers are not an option where I hunt ,this is not on the corner of a corn field ,I am comfortable to do less than more when the chips are down and flipping scope covers is not a step I want to deal with

Awaiting your response
