The Cooey Single Shot is King in Canada

Just so you guys don't think I'm all about long range road shooting grouse with a Cooey, I do like to shoot the easy stuff as well with a 20ga SxS with a dog. Range can be quite short, only about 20yds or less. It's much less refined than with the Cooey, but I do it for the dog. My other SxS is an English Webley & Scott 12bore that's doing a spa treatment with Chris Dawe right now. It probably won't see action this year.

...... You heard me! The Cooey Single Shot is King in Canada for grouse hunting!

I would hazard a guess that more grouse have been taken in Canada over the years with a single shot Cooey than any other single shotgun. I consider it to be the APEX of shotguns for road hunting grouse from an ATV or other vehicle. I have two, one 20 and another in 12. The 12 with it's 30" bbl will take the head off a grouse at 200yds with a heavy load of #6. The smaller 20 works well at 150yds. Both are slayers and no other single shot comes even close to a Cooey.

The 12 went with me this fall to the deer camp. It's a good thing I took it as I left my deer tag at home and could only hunt grouse. (me dumb) :)

I had the fancier version as my first gun,a Winchester 37a .410. Now I use an H&R1871 12ga

Damn good shotgun.
Damn good fence post pounder
Damn good canoe paddle.
Damn good reload pressure tester.....when buried under 3 feet of sand.
God Bless Cooey.
But, They do not do well when an idiot leaves one on the roof of a car and it hits the road at 50 miles an hour. And gives it back to the guy he borrowed it from. That was the funny part.

You should see SuperCup when he loads slugs into those Cooeys ... I saw him take a deer at 400 meters .... impressive ... !!!
I will take your work for that, BUT I am having a hell of a time trying to swat that damn bug of yours, and with a touch screen , that adds to the aggravation. I would have thought the cold weather would have got him by now, or old age.🦖
As a old guy , I have never seen a bad cooey of any description. Dad had one that lived in the barn with the cows all it's live, just blow the spiders out of the barrel, sometimes, or not , it always worked. Dad never owned a cleaning rod. only gun he ever used.

PS this reminds me about one of my NAA mini revolvers, in 22mag, 2 in barrel. fellow bet me that I could not hit a steel at 25 yrds,
No problem, good thing I had a full box of ammo .

20 Ga. Cooey's also work excellent for Sasquatch defense!. I've owned one since the early 70's and Not Once have I been attacked in the light of day or the dark of night by a Sasquatch! No. 5 shot all the way!!

Cooey 840 12 guage
Cooey 22 single shot
Lee Enfield 303

Guns of the Canadian West. Cheap and effective.

I need a single shot 22. I looked at a nice Cooey 22 at the Gun Dealer last week. Had a tube magazine. Was interested until I turned it over to see a couple extra holes on the side of the receiver.

SuperCub - if it had a tube magazine, was not likely a single shot - like 50 years ago, I proved to myself that my Dad's Cooey Model 60 would not work as a single shot - ended up to dig brass case out of palm of hand and cheek by my teeth when "one more shot" needed in a hurry - did not work - those extractor things on front of the bolt set off the rim primer before the case was chambered. I now have a Cooey 39 - made as a single shot - have not had that issue, yet. Very different bolt faces. Back in the day, Weaver made like folded metal scope mount - I think the Winchester Cooey 600 where drilled and tapped for them from factory - not so sure if any Cooey 60 where, although apparently lots done after market by owners to attach that mount - Weaver N3 mount - used with the old days 3/4" tube rimfire scopes.

Never-mind the cooey. That's a great hunting partner you got there!
