The Cooey Single Shot is King in Canada

I know it's not a shotgun but I have this AMC Pacer that is just awesome. It fits four people comfortably, the visibility from inside is fantastic, it's pretty good on gas and it's really good at what it's designed for.....to move me and a few other people from one place to another. It's awesome! Now.....I need a AMC Matador and AMC Gremlin to complete the set!
My pick fer the best AMC units be the Hornet and Eagle models. ;)
Me 1st 12 ga shotgun was a Cooey 84 that served well for a few yrs until I got into pumps & autos. We could make a "Super Cooey" these days with the tech now following the same layout, but with 12 ga chambers w/10 ga bore barrels like the Mossberg 835 & 935. Want great patterns, that be the way to go fer me.

Had a couple Cooeys as a kid, mule kick! Had a 36” barrel that I had a chamber converter and used it as a muzzle loader with black. Over powder card fiber wad heavy over shot card. Did well with it.

I've never heard of a chamber adapter like that. Was it like a breech plug for a 209 primer?

Cooey used to build a special model for Vets. I got a couple of them from an estate sale. Sold one to a local vet, complete with all of the accessories.

The receivers on these were purposely lightened, so they couldn't be used with high pressure ammunition.

The one I kept had broken parts in the receiver, so all that was usable was the butt stock and the barrel, which just happened to be "rifled" with a 1-24 twist rate.

The barrel easily fit onto a regular Cooey single shot receiver, which I just happened to have on hand and it would accept a 16ga shot shell.

I used a forcing cone to smoot over the sharp edges where the cylinder a Vet would use shouldered up against.

then loaded a 16ga shell with black powder and a patched ball. All went better than I expected. I did try some slugs, but they didn't work as well as the patched balls, as they were a bit loose in the bore for good accuracy.

Making up an insert for black powder, with a nipple for percussion caps wouldn't be difficult at all.

It is a plug that fits chamber and a #11 cap. Worked well and was common in the 70-80s.
Ok system for guns like me H&R Huntsman which only breaks open far enough to allow for placement & removal of percussion caps.
If ye have a hangfire on a Cooey or similar break action unit which opens far enough to let you to extract the shell or plug. ye be in
big hurt territory if the bugger lights off whilst the action is opened. It's happened on numerous occasions over the yrs with results
ranging from "holy fook!" scares to serious injuries.

My rule with guns of this type has always been to keep 'em closed and pointed in a safe direction for a minimum of 2 minutes before opening 'em.
