Looking forward to the OP's additions to this thread. I have no intention of buying the SG, but would love to see how they perform.
Great write up!
Great write up!
Hey, no worries!^^x3, I did not want to say anything, didn't want to offend the OP, but since someone already mentioned it so if helps fellow shooter to form some informed opinions, here it goes.
Let's go back to the NEW exchange reality for a bit.
The swiss arms SAPR is currently about 3500 swiss franc a a piece, the LB is about 300 to 400 more.
3500 swiss franc is roughly = 4700 CDN.
PE 90 is about 3150 swiss franc = 4200 CDN
I have handled the SG540, yeh they are not as pretty as the Swiss Arms, but the price of FAMAE at 2800ish is roughly 65% of the swiss arms these days. I am pretty sure you are getting more than 65% of the Swiss Arms value out of the FAMAE.
The CDN has tanked and it is going to be like this for awhile. Time to adjust to the reality. I am pretty sure the FAMAE price will rise too, because things are bought in USD.
I have Swiss Arms rifles to compare it against. While I thought for a lot of years the Swiss rifles were overpriced, ( I guess I still do, but I'm a cheap bastard) they did offer superior craftsmanship and an accuracy guarantee at 300m. Price of guns, mags and parts was overshadowed with quality, accuracy and utter reliability. Grudgingly I eventually succumbed, and even with the present turmoil, glad I had (have?) an opportunity to enjoy these wonderful machines.
The .308 famae pricing, I think played off of the Swiss Arms successes and the fact of being a non-restricted semi auto .308 (what's not to love right?), limited competition.
Being how the SAPR is vapourware at the moment, this is in a class all of its' own.
3,499 Swiss Francs = 4,671.45 Canadian DollarsThe SAPR is for sale for 3499 retail...........in Switzerland![]()
3,499 Swiss Francs = 4,671.45 Canadian Dollars![]()
That's what I thought. I'll let you know more after I have had a chance to shoot it. And <spoiler alert> I won't be shooting dirt.
If you are happy with it , and that's what matters the most!!!Hey, no worries! The subjects of price and quality were very prominent in the threads I read here in doing my research. When it comes to non-restricted 7.62mm black rifles there isn't a lot of choice--really it's only the SG542 or the XCR-M. I think going on logic only I would've picked up an XCR-M...it's more modern and more accommodating of accessories. But, the Swiss lineage of this rifle appealed to me, and I'll likely not be able to afford an SAPR if/when they arrive.
GT, the Swiss price for the PE is not quite that high. Most fair prices for PE90's back home in Switzerland are running around 2750-2800 CHF retail price (this varies from vendor to vendor of course with some asking way too much).
From Switzerland: PE 90 - (Privatversion) Listenpreis Grundversion (grün/grau) inkl. 1 Magazin und Manual: CHF. 2'760.00
2760 CHF is 3581 CDN.
What you need to remember is there are also costs associated with importing the rifles. They were going for about $3700 before the ban and when our currency was doing better. GT's figures of $4200 are pretty close to what they'll be going for after the ban is lifted.
