The first bullet you used to kill something

First bullet i used was a .177 pellet out of my pellet gun, plugged that squirrel on the first shot, but never looked for the pellet. Woulda been kinda neat to keep the first though.

I didn't recover my first bullet. It strikes me that it was a 180 NPT from a 30-06. I'm an invenerate bullet digger now and save every one I find. The brass gets reloaded though.

Never recovered a bullet until my third deer, it was a 70gr Speer from a 243 Browning 81 BLR. bullet entered just off the side of the vertebrae at the base of the skull and the jacket stopped just inside the tip of the nose. I think the weight was only ten or so grains left.
It sits with the others gathered from 19 years of going out to play, quite a stash building up now! There are enough now I've had to engrave the year and animal shot with each one. Bad memory.......

22lr on groundhogs, and grouse head shots. Did many several doz of those before grading to a CF rifle.

Shot my first big game (deer) with 150gr Rem factory loaded 308.

.

I kept the first bullet from my first deer, is in my stuff somewhere. It was a 155 gr Hp match round in .308. It was only later in the season that I learned that it was a No-No and one WAS to use expanding bullets. :( I wish that I had a few boxes of those left.

(Sigh) I loved living under the RCMP

Bullet went through the 2points of mully at 286m.Hand loaded 165gr Honady Il
from the 3006Rm.The brass:dancingbanana::dancingbanana: is still standing on my bench, every now and then I look at the brass ...Its brought back a big time of memery about that hunting trip!!!!

Hunted with a 444 for the first few years and was religious about broadside shots, so no recovered bullets for me from those early deer.

For years I kept my canceled tags and licenses as a record, not sure where they are now.

This thread got me thinking about all the animals I have taken over the years, and I must admit that it is getting harder to recall them all. Maybe I should sit down and write a short account of what I remember from each one.

God this post is making me sound old. I need to stop....

I wish I kept stuff like that from memorable moments. My boy shot his first birds this year and you think I might of remembered to keep the casings:mad:

Oh well. There will be a picture on the brag board soon enough.

First was a 7mm rem mag through a rather small muley doe, no bullet recovered. Still have the bullet from my first buck though, 4x4 whitetail in my avatar. .270wsm 150 gr federal something-or-other.

I keep one of the 12 guage empties I shot the first time I went hunting last year (pheasants). The next week I was enjoying one of the birds at lunch at work, well a sandwich thereof anyway and ended up spinnt out a single lead pellet, which looks like a #6 which is what I was shooting that day. There were several people shooting at any given bird that day so I have no clue if it is indeed one of mine or not.

Nevertheless I dropped the pellet in the empty shell I have from that day and the combo resides on my desk. It usually ends up getting used to explain the different parts of shotgun ammunition to the folks at work, which leads to dispelling a LOT of myths about firearms ... ;)

THAT'S IT ?!?!?!?! Is the usual reaction from non-gun people. It seems that they can't wrap their brains around the concept of a shell that big firing a projectile so small (well, multiple projectiles).

mine was a a fawn 6 years ago when i was 13 it was 3 cheap winchest 5 dollar box slugs never recovered any of them but i hit it all 3 times it was dead after the first shot but it was still running last shot hit it in the back of the head watched it do 2 or 3 summersault it was amusing never kept the casings either
