The FN FS2000: Thoughts, observations, and range report

Before I got my USC, I was a little "nervous" about polymer trigger components.

But after getting my USC and looking into it, the trigger parts on the G36 (designed to fire over 15,000 rounds min. with no parts damage) and how long they ACTUALLY last (generally they will last as long as the receiver does), its really no concern to me anymore.

The FS2000 still seems pretty complex though, I've always wondered how the forward ejection system works. Im guessing the strange shaped white part has something to do with raising it up...

From what I saw, the Kel Tek RFB seems to use a system more like a shotgun shell lifter to funnel the spent case out...

Very interesting design though!

Checked a few of these out at SHOT. Some had heavy triggers and some had nice crisp lighter triggers. I have no idea what the difference is but if I had one of these little puppies I'd be looking for the reason.

I've tried the FS2000 and its wicked fun to shoot and handle. The only thing I dislike is the magazine seal in the mag well. Makes it kinda hard to pull it out. If I had the money I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

You can rip the seal out, but it's a one-way deal: You can not reinstall the seal once it has been removed. The general recommendation is not to remove the seal, because it is there to prevent foreign objects from entering the firearm, and because you can not replace it, and thus it might make resale more difficult.

Master-G, try more styles of ammo when you get the chance. I have found with ammo they like it is very possible to get 5 shots under an inch at 100 with reasonable consistency. I have a Leopold CQT on mine and found the1-3x magnification to be about ideal, as you have found. I have about 4000 rounds through mine so far, with not even a hiccup. My favorite black gun by far! Thanks for the great write-up. Well done!

It sounds terrible for a lefty - reaching over the top to #### it each magazine!
Although I haven't tried it at the range I thought a lefty would use it the way right-handed shooter handles an M14 -- keep the support hand on the fore-end and use the firing hand to reach the cocking handle.

Which ammo did yours like best?

Can one take off the front handguard-thing? What's underneath it? Can one get some rails in that area instead of the radar-dome like structure?
Yes, at least in the States, you can get a tri-rail mount. Here's a pic from a thread on ar15.com

This one is in one of the earlier threads here about the FS2000, as well.

Tri-rail handguards are very hard to get a hold of. There was one company making them but they got bought out by another company, and the second company has been really slow to get them to market. There is also a company in the States that's making their own 37mm grenade launcher for it.:ar15:
