The Freedom Ordnance FX-9 OWNERS thread.

As promised.
Pretty obvious what was happening here.
That's the bullet I pushed back out of the barrel.
Guess I should have picked up the first piece of brass when I tried those old handloads I made for something else. Dumb.
Looks like they were sticking out quite a ways when they went off and the hammer was still able to give the pin enough energy, weird.

Got pretty lucky, this is the piece of brass that went through my jacket, sweater, t-shirt and lodged itself in my arm.
I felt like a real man digging it out of my shoulder with my knife. Must not be many nerves in that spot, lol.
If I was a lefty it could have been a lot worse.
The hole in my shoulder was cauterized, no blood at all, even digging out the piece of brass.

Glad you're okay.

Something isn't right there, though. I've posted earlier about all the problems I initially had getting it to reliably go into battery on the first round. Fixed by using a rifle spring.

Not once did it go off without being fully closed, and it was a lot closer to being in battery than yours would have been with those handloads.

Ya, problem was the ammo, bullet was seated too long. They were made for a pistol I sold years ago and I didn't even think to test them properly before loading them. That part of the issue is my fault.
I've never had any issues getting the rounds to chamber prior to this though.

I'm just surprised the hammer was able to contact the firing pin if the bolt wasn't all the way forward. I'll have to take a closer look at it, maybe they cut too much away under the bolt when re-designing this rifle not understanding that it's one of the safety features of the original design.
Hard to say though without looking closer, it shouldn't have been able to set them off with the bolt back that far though.

Finally got the new hand guard on

What handguard is that?

Just shot my second IDPA match PPC division with my 8” barrel FX-9 (the restricted version). Did the bolt mod with my trusty file last night without incident. Ran smoooooth all day today, not one issue (my skills, however...that’s another story...!). Used exclusively 10 round PMAGs today - sits tight on a closed bolt, you really have to give it a good tap to make sure it’s locked in place, but no other issues with the PMAGs.

My Pmags are the same. They'll go in but they're pinned pretty tight.

Odd question: does the FX9 use standard pattern AR9 barrels or are they proprietary? Like would this one fit?

I'm just curious about the "standardness" of the barrel, given it's bolt is not the same as the typical AR9.

I have those too and they work pretty good, tight with the bolt closed. The only problem I had during a match was over insertion with the bolt open and then it wouldn’t close, blew that stage, need to be aware for further matches.

So you inserted the Pmag a little too hard ? Just want to be clear in what you meant by “ over insertion “ as I’ll run these mags in IDPA as well soon.

On a related note there were two of us running FX-9s in the same squad shooting another two gun Tac Rifle Match this weekend and we both did well. Both rifles performed well with the exception of the odd “ non “ lrbho. Target out at 150 yds was a challenge with rn powder coated 130 gr with 3.4g Titegroup. I resorted to skipping my rounds in from in front of the low hanging steel plate . Must get fmj projectiles for competition.

Yes, too vigorous of a mag change with the bolt open, I could see on the mag where it came up hard against the mag stop. If it happens you need to pull out on the mag for the bolt to close.

Thankyou ... good to know.

Hey sorry OP I had a question and theirs literally so many pages to go through but in your first post you had a YouTube link for a vid that improves ejection that freedom would be doing from now on. Did you mean that the first fx9 that were brought in didn’t have this mod done? I just wanna know cuz I didn’t realize that this thread existed till now and I do have one of the first.

Yes the first ones didn’t have that tiny chamfered filed onto the extractor. Once they learned about the improvement they implemented the change moving forward.

Follow the vid instructions for diy or contact your retailer for instructions on how to get it done by sending your bolt in.

I see does it affect warranty then if I diy it?

May delivery: "bolt tuning" is done from the factory, new charging handle is more comfortable than the original one (enhanced charging handle was added to the order), there is still a protrusion to the firing pin channel from outside of the bolt...... the trigger needs attention :)))))
In general - great firearm....now need to hit the range :))))

I absolutely LOVE mine. I added a vortex 1-4x scope with cantilever mount and a magpul grip. Also have the enhanced charging handle on the way.

I'm thinking about adding a foregrip of some kind and MAYBE a trigger down the road, although I don't think this trigger is that bad.

Does everyone else have a shiny smoothed out portion on the top of the castle nut where the charging handle rubs?
