The Freedom Ordnance FX-9 OWNERS thread.

Yeah, I don't think I could go back to a standard style buffer now that I've run the hydraulic buffer. As a note, if you want spacers buy some 24mm stainless round stock and cut your own spacers (The Kynshot ones are $40+tax each, the stainless rod is like $10 for 10oz or 3 inches). Try 2.5oz then try a 5oz... big difference.
I’ve got some 1” Brass on the way (I have a Mill and Lathe) same friend wants me to make some weights to play with. Noticed there’s 3 flat spots along side of buffer and weights guessing that’s to release air as the buffer travels no biggie to copy that. Don’t want to make a piston.
Was at Taccom yesterday,
got to play with the TriggerTech FX9 model very nice unit.
The rep commented re:Gen2 models that there could be a light strike issues depending on Primers.
OK,,, , so he suggested that 2 coils could be cut off the firing pin spring to resolve this! Hmm or just get Federals.
And TriggerTech is having 20% sale on now for Taccom. See www.triggertech.com

The Triggertech FX9 model is a good unit. I have ran one all year.

Very little (if any) take up, and short / fast reset. I have had a few failure to fires (not many) but only with Ginex primers. I run S&B or Federal on my match ammo and have no issues.

When I look on Triggertechs website I do not see any discount - did they mention a discount code for Taccom?

I suggest using Stainless steel. Brass is going to be too soft and could mushroom out at the face when the bolt strikes it repeatedly. A 303 or 304 stainless works great, I used 1" and hand filed it down to .980 of an inch...##### of a job but gotter done and polished up. Slick as monkey crap now).

As for the Triggertechs, they work fine except for having light primer strikes on some (not all) factory ammo and on harder primers. When I was shopping for triggers I emailed Freedom Ordnance and they said for the best result use a Hiperfire...so I did.

Agree on the brass. Would want something harder.

I run an Kynshot HD buffer and two weights on mine and it has worked great.

Which Hiperfire did Freedom Ordnance recommend? The Hipertouch Eclipse seems like the top of the line. Supposedly a less tactile reset than the Triggertech (which is probably a good thing).

(When I look on Triggertechs website I do not see any discount - did they mention a discount code for Taccom?)
At there booth was a sign 🪧 that said the discount along with a QR to scan. That probably led to the discount ? I didn’t scan it.

As to the Brass, they make Brass hammers. Very durable. And the recoil system is a moving mass there is no high impact between parts. The steel bolt doesn’t come flying back into the buffer. They are resting together and travel together as a single mass.
As to metal I will usually go to Metal Supermarkets or McKinnon Metals in the GTA . They have racks of cut off material you can get cheep.

Brass hammers and drifts require constant dressing and chip. Not a good idea imho. Unless you want brass chips in your gun?

Use the Triggertech discount code TACCOM20

It should still be valid as I have it applied to my shopping cart and the 20% discount is shown.

Perhaps this info is earlier in this thread but I didn't sift through it.

I was selling an FX9 upper and was asked if it was a gen 1 or gen 2. As I didn't have the associated lower I did a few google searches to try and figure this out but to no avail. I ended up calling Freedom Ordnance who was very helpful and indicated I had a gen 2 by using the following criteria:
1. My bolt length on the gen 2 is 149mm (Idk the length on the gen 1); and
2. The ejection port on is asymmetrical when comparing the left and right sides of it (when looking at it the left side is a different shape than the right, I guess the gen 1 is symmetrical.)

I thought this info might help someone int he future trying to figure this out.

Looks like freedom ventures Carries the Nickk and warhammer charging handles

Purchased a Nickk charging handle today.

Anyone used both as I have 2 FX9’s and wondering if one charging handle is preferred over the other and why.

The factory gen gen 2 charging handle is too small for my hands.

Many thanks in advance

I havent seen / used the Warhammer but I have ran the Nickk version for a full season.

It is a LOT like a Raptor charging handle in my opinion, massive upgrade from the stock junk (which is like a toy). I have every confidence you will be happy.

The Nickk charging handle arrived. It’s a Gen 2 for a gen 2 upper.

It is longer than factory and doesn’t insert all the way - appears to be a plastic piece in front of the charging handle channel forward of the receiver area in the handguard/rail.

I gather this has to be removed in order to use this charging handle?

Do I disassemble the handguard from the upper receiver or is there another way to remove it?

Any advice / guidance is appreciated.

thanks in advance.

just picked one up and boy was it dry i put some oil on it snd worked great but out of the box i have never seen a rifle so dry

Yup! Super dry. Having the bolt swimming in CLP for break in is not overkill at all. In fact I still keep is liberally lubricated with CLP when shooting. Pro tip: A can of gun scrubber for cleaning is your friend. :)

Yes, I run mine wet too. Bolt dripping with G96 CLP.

As time wears on I feel like these guns are fussy to COAL. I was running 1.10" and I suspect it was at the upper end for length, every once in a while the gun would jam up (seems to have picked up a round and for some reason the tip goes straight up and it jams up longways - ie straight up and down - in front of the bolt) and I suspect this is the reason.

I have moved to 1.085" and will be testing for improvement.

What profile of bullet are you running? Mine has not been fussy for feeding, but it does want pinned full cap factory Gen 5 mags for the bolt hold open to work reliably.

I started with 147gr Flat Nose and it was hit or miss. Day one of matches the gun seemed to always run like a champ, day two it would jam up.

I have since moved to 135gr Round Nose, have only done one match and same end result. Day one the gun ran great, day two it jammed on multiple stages.

To be clear I clean between day one and day two at matches so that shouldn't be the cause.

From what I can tell talking with others who run them FX9s are probably best fed with round nose and so I will persevere with the 135gr Round Nose, which is why I am now looking at COAL to see if I can find any improvement there.

Regarding LRBHO my FX9 has been flawless, I have tried multiple mags and found the following:

1) Genune Glock G17 mags - LRBHO works perfect / no issues.
2) Genuine Glock 33 round stick mags - LRBHO works perfect / no issues.
3) Magpul 27 round mags - LRBHO works perfect / no issues.
4) SGM 33 round mags - LRBHO works BUT it activates with one round still left in the magazine.

What powder are you using? I'm currently testing the "Madcow load" of 121grn rnhb campro's over 3.4gr of titegroup at 1.12 oal (about 132pf with a 16" barrel) and they seem to be really accurate with no dot movement and pretty soft shooting. As for mags, I sold all my ETS, SGM and glock 33's and only run a glock oem for my stripper mag. All other mags are now magpuls (the 17's or the 21's) because I have had zero problems with them.

I'm running Titegroup, and my numbers are similar - 3.4gr would make ~132PF with 124gr round nose.

I liked the Magpuls but moved to Genuine Glock to get the metal so I could stick them to magnets from table starts.
