The Freedom Ordnance FX-9 OWNERS thread.

I am curious as to what kind of velocity you guys are seeing from these ?

Lol, my FX-9 saw another 70 rounds today, I had the chronograph out and didn't even think to see what it was doing. Not sure it matters a whole bunch other than just for the sake of curiosity. An extra 100-200fps isn't going to mean much with a bullet that has a BC that's about the same as a musket ball.
I've shot a couple 45acp PCC's out to 200 yards on large steel plates but I don't really know if I'd call what it was doing a group. After 100 yards the 9mm accuracy seems to fall apart as well.
Within 100 yards the steel really takes a beating.

Todays shooting puts it up to 200 rounds total, I recall one stovepipe stoppage today.

Interesting. I've had zero of those since the bolt mod.

I was watching while one of the guys was shooting my rifle and the bolt was coming forward before the empty had cleared the port opening, I'll have a look at it and see if there's anything I can come up with before taking a file to it.
I have 3 other buffers as well so may play around with those first.

I take it yours doesn't have the bolt mod?

None of the buffer/spring combos I tried affected the FTE problem before I did the bolt.

Great, thanks guys, I haven’t had any issues with mine but I’ll check the bolt anyways. The only thing that I noticed from mine are marks on the brass after extraction, like it’s hitting something hard on the way out. Puts a little dent on the spent brass.

About 1000 rounds through so far. First 200 or so were definitely break in. Runs like a top now.

How does your buffer look?

Buffer looks fine. It is noisy as can be expected. I have an Armaspec 3.3oz stealth recoil spring to put in still.

You just need to buy a grip without the beavertail and you're done :p

I know that one looks kind of goofy, it was a spare I had. Other than the little gap between the receiver and the beavertail it feels pretty good on there.

I tried an armaspec in mine, I couldn't get it to charge and the bolt wouldn't go back at all. Let me know what yours does.

Thanks

I tried out a rifle-length spring yesterday, with standard, H1 and H3 buffers.

The H3 wouldn't reliably lock open on empty and I both the standard and H1 ran nicely. Much less felt recoil and jump with the rifle spring over the crap "carbine" spring that came with it.

Glad the rifle length spring worked out for you. Thanks for the range report as well.

That was a great suggestion, thanks. I have no idea why it never occurred to me to use a rifle spring. Probably because I've never had a fixed stock AR.

Also noticed a significant improvement in group size at 25m without the gun beating itself to death on the OEM spring.

That's disappointing to hear. I'm hoping it will work okay, I'll pop it in this weekend. Did you drop out the retainer pin or leave it in? I put the H2 in my rifle and I really like it.
