The Freedom Ordnance FX-9 OWNERS thread.

Hoping someone can help me with an issue I'm having with my new gen 2 fx9. I received it with a SGM 33/10 magazine and the bolt has been locking open with one round left in the magazine. I haven't tried other magazines because I don't own any at this time. Thoughts? Similar experiences?

Ya you pretty much want to try other magazines . Search function is your friend , lots of posts on the subject.

I've read the majority of this forum and haven't come across anyone with my issue... being the hold open engaging with one round left in the magazine ( and with 0 rounds left). Was looking for insight on why it might be happening.. such as out of spec magazine lips etc.

Not exactly the same, but similarly my FX9 is indeed finicky when it comes to magazines and the ability of the last round bolt hold open to function. In fact, over the past year, it has gotten progressively worse with OEM Glock 17 G5 mags consistently NOT allowing the last round bolt hold open to work. Whereas if I use Magpuls (GL9, etc.) it has slightly better success, but overall, it's the only slight bummer about the gun's function.

Really debating registering my Fx9 so I can legally install and shoot it with an 8" upper. Its basically either that or leave the 18.5 installed and dash the restricted configuration incase SHTF.. how have others proceeded, without incriminating yourselves online plz n thanks.

You have 30 days to notify the CFO of any changes to the rifle. No one says you can't change it back on day 29, or after each range trip (saves having to double lock it too). Nice part of a full upper assembly is that your sight will keep its zero no matter how many times you take it on/off.

this was my intention but Runkle kinda put the kybosh on it with his perspective.

I'm also having issues with the bolt hold open. I took my FX9 out to the range for the first time yesterday and experienced the same issue with the bolt holding open on both the 9th and 10th shots. Out of the 18 magazines I've put through the gun so far, the BHO functioned properly only once. I'm planning on picking up some Magpul mags to see if it fixes the issue.

Thanks!

Another question. Any dead giveaways, if looking at a used one, on how to tell a Gen 2 from a Gen 1?

I understand the mag release should say "freedom reigns" . Is that true?

Thanks again, all.

One of the key differentiators assuming it is stock, is that the G1 has a smaller charging handle. The enhanced one is not much bigger but it's noticeable enough

Had anyone installed a gen 2 feed ramp on a gen 1 rifle?
Putting them side by side, the gen 2 ramp is slightly taller (~1mm), but other dimensions looked the same.
Just wondering if people saw any improvement with feeding?
Particularly, with 147s and HPs.

So does anyone know where to buy ODG furniture that would fit the FX9?

You can put most standardized furniture on it, grab a grip and stock (ar15) and swap it out. Haven't tried but you can likely swap the handguard too, avoid deltaring setups obviously.

Anyone have any accuracy reports? I realize this is a fun gun but i would like to shoot gophers with mine out to 50 m. Is it pie plate or wld it shoot 1.5-2 inches at that range with a 6x optic?

Yes I understand, but cannot find anything in stock, so to rephrase it better, does anyone know of a current retailer selling ODG hardware that would work with the FX9?

Just looking to see how these stack the holes on paper…

It's accurate within the PCC world. Obviously the ammo you feed it would mostly dictate the out come.

It is shown that regular 9mm has optimal velocity between 8-10" barrels. At 18.5", it comes out 50fps slower than it would at 8".
I would suggest reloading your ammo with a slow burning powder to achieve maximal velocity out of the 18.5" barrel and increase your chances of hitting your target.

I do not have any target to show you, but I can easily consecutively hit 8" gongs @ 50yd with a RDS. If that helps.
