The French milsurp rifle #### thread!

"Colonial" Berthier

I guess I can now play in this thread, having just acquired my first French milsurp - a Berthier in 8x50R Lebel. Hope the cross-post from February purchases is okay.

Based on input from others I gather this is a "Colonial" Berthier, or a "Fusil de Tirailleur Sénégalais Modèle 1907".

A few armourers repairs to the stock but otherwise in great shape and complete. Can't wait to try it out at the range.

Appear to have been reworked in 1933. Also modified for the ball "N" Continsouza receiver. Bolt and barrel match. Stock have been refinished but not by the previous owner, still clean. I will leave it that way.

My two Frencies I regularly shoot the MAS

As for a RSC 1917 there is a Fellow in Alabama who has the handle of Vonmazur on some other boards who has one that is fully functional.

The RSC Mle 1917, apparently uses a special 5 shot clip. The Mle 1917 clip is similar to the regular Mannlicher-Berthier clip, except the back of the clip is straight, not curved.
The Mle 1918 is shorter and uses the regular Mannlicher-Berthier 5 shot clip.
I had a Mannlicher-Berthier Model 1916/27 carbine, with the bayonet and it was an interesting carbine to shoot

MAC rework done at Chatellerault arsenals.
PP.

Also have a Gras in the original calibre.
It was not the French army but rather the French politicians and generals that screwed the country. The Only people who read DeGaulles book on armoured warfare were the Germans! Add to that, french tanks designed with one man turrets. Better armour protection than the German ones, but NO radios. Oh, almost forgot to mention the french had a good fighter but not enough of them, (politics again) and their bombers would not have looked out of place in WW1!!!
Then there was the Maginot line that the germans simply drove around, or flew over.
Apparently nobody in the French general staff figured that the germans would simply go through Belgium again!

Unfortunate cannot post a pic

To bad I am unable to post pics. I have a MAS 49 sniper with two different scopes and mounts along with parachute case and various bits and pieces:( no worries its coming up for sale. Daddy needs a plane ticket back to Africa

Speaking about Mas rifles has there been any imports of FR F1 or F2. Also how is the action on the Mas I've never even held one so I'm curious.

Sorry, I couldn't resist!!

Rule 7 Derogatory, negative stereotyping and sweeping generalization, based on profession(such as Law Enforcement), religion, race, ###, etc, are not allowed.

Bad joke, uneducated joke, and very false joke... I guess there's always a ''funny'' one to keep the flame of blind ignorance alive...

I found that the refurbished MAS actions were a little stiff but they soon ran smooth fter a little use. The bolt position doesnt take any getting used to but the aperture and trigger pull do, having no safety isnt a problem when the trigger pull is measured in days not pounds.
I want to get another to build a sporter but I may just cheat and stick a new .308 barre chambered for the 7.5 Fr on a rem 700!
i guess I'm too lazy!

I picked up a MAS 36 & now realizing that the 7.5 x 54 ammo that is used is very hard to come by. I have learned that it is still being produced in Europe but can't seem to track down any in BC - any suggestions?
Many thanks

I looked everywhere, incl a WTB in here for about a year, nada. Lots of it in the US, but nothing this side of the border and i wasn't interested to break the US export laws. Also, the market wasn't big enough to make it worth it for a dealer to import it. I finally decided that i would have to get into reloading and bought the brass and dies from TRADEX. Not a week later, someone answered my post and had 200 rds he wanted to get rid of. He couldn't believe his luck that he had found someone willing to pay for them, and i couldn't believe my luck I had found someone willign to sell it to me. :dancingbanana:

Turns out he was living 15 mins drive away from me.

So you never know what you are going to find, but if you intend on shooting it regularly, you will have to get to reloading.

MAS 36 49 7.5 ammo

Hi,

I have also been looking for some times for the ammo in 7.5< i have about 200 rounds left and didn't want to shoot them until ......

i just found out that Canada ammo has some in stock!
:ar15:

It is easy to load for, I found 6.5 swede cases work fine, RCBS do a die set with an expander ball that takes care of the sizing and you load 146 gn Nato 7.62 FMJ and you get almost identical performance. I filled my cases with 48 grains of IMR 4895 and it shot to point of aim back to 400.
