The French milsurp rifle #### thread!

Recently got this gorgeous 1890 dated, non N marked, 1886 Lebel that hasn't gone through any refurb. Shoots like an absolute dream.

That's one of the nicest 1886 rifles I've seen.

A very clean one was always on my bucket list but everything I looked at and I had the opportunity to go through thousands of them, was borderline FAIR to GOOD. All were ridden hard and put away wet.

Good on you for that score

Hey guys,
Tried using my RSC 17 and found out the gun was not cycling.
The gun appears to have all the parts required for semi auto functionality, but by taking it appart, I noticed there may be a brass washer missing making contact between the barrel gas trap and the barrel port, right now all there is is a threaded flat steel spacer and this comes into contact with another steel surface that looks slightly concave.

Could anyone with a RSC 17 tell me if/what am I missing?

Well, I've now joined the French rifle fray. I recently received a MAS36 (I'll attempt to remember to grab a picture tomorrow on it's first range outing). I haven't found any brass for it yet, but after doing some reading I am reforming brass to hopefully work. I don't have (or have any local access to) 6.5x55 which I read is perfect for reforming, so I'm using the 60+ pieces of .270 I have that I don't have a rifle for. It involves removing the centre resizing/decapping pin from the die, running it through, cutting off ~1/4", then running it through the complete die again, then final trim. The case head is a little small, but running the brass through the rifle, they seem to feed and eject just fine. We'll see how the 20 rounds I loaded run tomorrow

Anyways, the point of my post, when I reload I like to make period similar packaging for my completed rounds. I asked in my post on the DIY section (found here), but didn't get any replies, so I might have better luck here. I can't seem to find much for Google images for how WW2 7.5x54 ammo was packaged and I wonder if any of the French rifle collectors on this thread have either an original package they'd post a picture of or if anyone has a lead on where I can look

Hello everyone. For those of you who have a RSC17, could you share if you know of a source for the ammo clip, original or repro?
Cheers,
HP

Update: Never mind, i found what i was looking for.

I had my MAS36 out to the range on days off to try my hand at Cabin Fever Challenge. I won't be winning any speed records since it was jamming up consistently on every 5th round. Well, jamming isn't the right word, it didn't seem the follower was raising the last round high enough to be caught by the bolt to feed into the chamber. When I got home the problem became clear, the magazine spring had broken right at one of the angles/bends. It seems an original magazine spring isn't available in Canada, so I've ordered a repro K98 magazine spring from Marstar. Visually, my MAS36 and k98 have nearly identical springs. I didn't swap them to try it out, but we'll see when the $13 replacement shows up if my gamble will work

why not just order the right part?

For those interested, here's my Cabin Fever Challenge entry with the MAS36. This rifle is fast becoming one of my favourites with it's easy-to-reload-for cartridge and the fast acquired sights. As seen in the CFC entry, I think I need to adjust the sights a little as most of my group was on the lower half of the target, but decent grouping I think for off-hand shooting using cheap CamPro FMJ bullets. As per Purolator, I should have my (hopefully should work) magazine spring by Tuesday. I'll install it and try to get to the range on next days off to test it
