Got myself a mas36 and recently acquired a transitional berthier. Has a 1916 marked reciever but without the other additional features (no handguard, 3 shot). Been trying to find a lebel but no luck. Any idea if lebels come around very often?
how does it shoot?
He has all the Berthier rifles too FFS! Right now, thats about $66 000.- CDN in the current market and climbing.
I am French I live in California I collect mostly French stuff.

That one is a beauty. Mostly they're beat to hell, with poor/pitted/worn bores.
I looked for decades to find one in VG-Exc condition, with matching numbers.
I had a bud with one that was a tack driver. I never did find that Holy Grail.
I did find others though.
Most people that haven't shot or used French firearms don't know how well made they are.
They're durable, reliable and accurate, unless they're worn out. Even then, they still function reliably.

Agreed. And a truly all matching (factory) and non-renumbered is indeed a holy grail rifle. Nearly impossible to find.
Are the all matching Berthier rifles (long) model 1916 with the like new bores quite common those days?
I've seen 07/15 usually being mismatched except for those Remington made rifles with no serial numbers, but I have no clue about 1916.
It's a Saint Etienne long rifle built on 07/15 receiver.

Updating my original post from page 5 of this thread, re: my Colonial Berthier (Mle 1907), which I've had since 2012 (well, except for that short period when I sold it to a friend before he allowed me to buy it back). After a decade of searching, I finally found a correct Modele 1907 bayonet for it, at a recent auction.
I know I was bidding against at least one other poster on this thread, and I was cursing you under my breath, LOL, as the bidding went up and up and up.)
My determination to acquire it was not just because these bayonets just do -not- come up often at all but because the bayonet is serial-number matched to my rifle. Colour me very, very, happy.

Greek long rifle to carbine conversion. The Greek Army of Asia Minor received 10,000 Berthier Mle 07/15 and Mle 1892 M16 to fight against the Turks. The Greeks converted them to make them handier in their rough terrain.
I have owned many French rifles over the years, but only a Gras M1866-74 full wood and a Gras M1866-74 sporter in 11X59R, and various bayonets remain.
I kept them in part because they're antiques, and "One of these days", I'll get one of them shooting - maybe.
