The GSG 16 modification thread

***UPDATE***

Took my GSG16 to a buddy's place today and had a few friends put my build thru the places!

OkayShooter, I was completely wrong you were right. clamp mounts DO NOT WORK!

We pounded the rounds thru this gun, magazines, drum, over 750 rounds today!

Here is my son just loving the build with his 10/22 shorty.

In the sun, with the gun getting hot the clamping of the mount started to shift changing the POI after a few hundred rounds! My gunsmith friend said the clamp idea will not work ever!!! He is going to mount a metal picatinny rail with bolts, nuts, and washers ground flat using the 3D printed rail.

The rear HK style sight is too high as well. The front post of the GSG5 kit needs to be raised or the rear lowered. So the sighting systems of my build were a failure!

So have to do some more thinking.

The short Dlask barrel with a brake is FRIGGIN LOUD!!! But the gun functioned flawlessly! I used Mini Mags, then Golden Bullets, and finally a box of 555 bullets, all were plated, don't remember any malfunctions, so Dlask did a GREAT job on the barrel and install. Also used the Ruger 10/22 and my son's GSG STG44, all function great. Only thing to remember is to watch how you load GSG magazines, that bullet tip needs to be facing the front of the magazine tilted up.

Anyways, but to the modding journey of the GSG16.

Are you sure its not the barrel maybe doing something funny? Not sure about the Dlask barrel, but I heard that the stock GSG16s do lose accuracy with the pencil barrel it has due to heat.

My clamp seemed to hold strong last time I went out, did about 3-400 rounds last time. Maybe I got lucky or the shift wasnt overly huge.

Definitely working on something here that could have an integrated rail. Just a question of finding more support. Will keep posted

Interesting, I saw that happening to by GSG 16 as well (stock rails). Im running a Sig Romeo 5 red dot and found the zero would start to wander after 200 - 300 round shoot. Not a big problem as I was shooting a lot of ammo pretty fast. Back to normal once it cooled

I’ve finally finished my GSG.

Just have to sight it in now. Still undecided on which hand guard I like best.

Thanks for everyone’s help!

Nice build, same as mine. But you are going to need to get the rear sight lower in order for it to zero. I'm turning down the drum on mine, to sit lower.

Thanks! I haven’t shot it yet, and my batteries in the boresighter are dead.

I’m using the tallest front sight post from the 522 kit. The rear sight is an SRC, and I have it on the lowest setting. Maybe I’ll have to shave some material off the bottom of the drum to get it sitting lower? No idea if I even can. I guess we will see soon enough!

I’m hoping it will be pretty close! Minute of bottle is good enough for me.

Won't be enough. My rear sight on the lowest setting. I wasn't even hitting the pie plate at like 15M. Believe I was shooting over the target. I was having feeding issues and other problems, so accuracy wasn't my main focus. The GSG 5, the rear sight mounts lower than the GSG 16. Hmm how can I explain this? The raised square section of the receiver where the old rail is. That's not on the GSG 5. So that height is the difference between the GSG 16 and the GSG 5. So you need to lower the drum to subtract that height difference.

So that is why the GSG 16 rear sight, doesn't work with the GSG 5 cocking tube/front sight. Rear sight is simply way to high than the front sight.

Yes, I know about the GSG-5 rear sight difference. If only the 16 had that same receiver.

When I bore sighted the rifle using the shortest front sight post, my sights appeared about 1 foot higher than the bore (20 yards). Now with the tallest post, I’m hoping it’s a bit more even. But I can always adjust the front post either by making it taller or shorter. Maybe with the rear too. I’m off to the range next week, so I have all week to think about it lol.

Hmm gotta double check if I got the tallest post now. My gun is enroute back to Dlask to get the barrel replaced.
