The GSG 16 modification thread

I want to build another one that with GSG-5 conversion kit + SD style handguard, which is the best SD handguard for GSG-5 conversion kit?

So what optics are people using to clear the diopter irons?

I was concerned that a micro red dot might sit too low?

Just waiting on a 4 position lower and choosing a sight and it'll be done me thinks :)

where u get the handguard from ?

How do u guys put the stock handguard on to the GSG5 conversion kit?
I looked at Gnutzguy video, I dont have the right tools to do the way that he did =/

Good luck with Hero, they always say they have stock when they don't. I had to threaten going to Visa as they seldom respond....

Yep, had to contact visa this past fall to get my money back on an order that sat for over 4 months. And zero response to email or phone calls.

Hey Folks,

I am in the process of building an MP5-SD clone out of my recently acquired GSG-16. I want to get as accurate as possible, so I will eventually install the GSG-522 conversion kit with it's more authentic front sight and mod in a correct MP-5 style drum sight. However, I also want to find an excuse to buy a Trijicon MRO 2.0 and a Scalarworks LEAP mount. That mount comes in 3 different height configurations:
1.42" Absolute co-witness
1.57" Lower Third co-witness
1.93" No co-witness

I am thinking the 1.57" mount would work best on the GSG-16 with HK MP5 style iron sights. I have no basis in fact for that, just a guess based on looking at pictures.

Does that seem like the right sight mount for this gun conversion?

I'm new to this, so any guidance would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Eamonn

If you dont shave the top of the receiver, the GSG522 front sights and rear HK diopter sights wont line up and will be decoration only. Stock Factory sights however work fine

Thank you for clarifying. I'll be using it for plinking, so the HK style sights are just for looks. I think the 1.57" mount seems like it would work.

Thanks again!

Has anyone replaces the take down screws to the pins like the actual mp5? Of so where do you find the pins? How do you do it? Or are you able to? Thanks

I got a pair from pcwgr1, a member here who often sells spare magazine springs and other GSG-16 parts. Seems they don't have any listed on the EE just now but you could contact the member and ask:

In this post I show how I fitted a plastic block into the back of mine, converting it to tool-free takedown in combination with the two pins.

The block fitting isn't very fussy, just needs to be a reasonably snug fit and not get in the way of anything else while providing a clear path for the recoil spring guide rods and holding up the bolt carrier stop plate. Felt good getting rid of the need for an Allen key for basic maintenance.
