The Gun Case Thread

Red. It shows off the wood beautifully. And if that colour was good enough for James Purdey and Frederick Beesley cases… why change it?

Yes indeed, this same argument in my head makes me wanna stick to the red; but then that devils voice…go ahead, do something different, stand out…uuugghh

I've been debating colors as well because I want to make a case for my sidelever. Royal blue. Cedar green or a Burgundy color are my top 3 choices. Seems the only adhesive baise comes from the UK
I need to wait for warmer weather as the wife gets mad when I use power tools in the living room
I had the idea of making a raised dome to clear the sidelever and then have the name air brushed or branded on the outside but I haven't figured out how to construct it yet

After much internal debate, I decided to stick to the traditional red / burgundy colour…

Keep us posted on which colour you end up selecting brybenn. I feel branded / embossing would be better than air brushing in the long run, no?

Probably but I know a lady who is extremely talented with an airbrush. I still have to find the time to start. Finish the house Reno's and rebuild the garage then put in another patio with a sun shade and misting system for the dogs will come first

Over the years, I've seen a few done in a deep purple... With a light colored stock, it looked pretty good.

I have a case to restore and have a line on some purple baize for the lining. Half the latch/lock is missing and I presume it is the result of a lost key. Any help on sourcing the hardware to replace it (top and bottom) would be welcome.

If you're in a rush: Lee Valley
- Don't mind waiting a few weeks (months)... Aliexpress

Briefcase aasps (with the leather strap) on the old doctor's bag would look good.

I'm looking for the same type of flush lever lock and similar size, otherwise there will be holes remaining from where the old one was. Not something that Lee Valley carries, or that I have found on Etsy, eBay, or AliExpress. AbbeyEngland.com has something close, but after shipping and duty it's going to be $100. Not finding a correct match at Peter Dyson either but it is sure fun browsing their catalogue.
I'll be making a handle.

Londonshooter....may I suggest FB Marketplace....search for "Vintage Leather cases or suitcases", there are couple right now on there that you could use for parts...from England, one has the exact handle....good luck.

I took the wife to a couple antique shops in London. Pre covid and they were somewhere not far from hully gully if I remember right. They had quite a few old leather luggage cases and alot of musical instrument cases with latches that resemble what you have. I bought a violin case there for a display case for my regulator 12ga. Maybe worth a stroll. There were several close to gether
