The Gun Case Thread

Better cover the wrist strap screws with a tiny piece of the lining material or thin leather. The screw heads will damage the stock.

Good point. Thankyou. Will do.

I think I may use a punch maker to make two cute circles in the baize and then glue them up over the screws…(if that sticks)

It must be that time of year because I've been working on cases, too. Still held up pending locating the proper latch for the one I started earlier. Today had me making new straps for the one below. I put a leg of mutton case on top for perspective. I bought it for the Parker shown in the second image, but the gun is just a little long. A full length case really is not that practical for a shotgun, anyway. Maybe for my Mannlicher Schoenauer with a compartment for QR scope and other accessories? From the way the internal straps were set up originally I suspect it was for 2 long guns each in soft cases.
I bought an even larger canvas and leather gun steamer trunk but that's for another day.

(No, I did not stage the photo with the flowers and cherry tomatoes! That stuff was on the dining room table when I moved the case there to take advantage of better light. C'mon now)

Mike, see dropbox link in post 315.
The restoration looks fantastic!

I do have to say that apart from the original cleaning rod, all other accessories (chamber brush /glass oil pot /snap caps /pull through /grease jar /striker pot /cotton cleaning patch roll /brass jag /wool mop /brass brush) were new purchases from Beesley | Purdey when I had a chance to visit during Coronation week…

The punch-maker baize circles were too small to be effective so did a bigger circle as supposed to a square, else the corners could eventually come off given how the leather would stretch every time.

That's a nice looking Parker. Can you tell us some details such as grade etc

Hi Bill.
Yeah, I have been a little remiss in not posting about this gun. There are a couple photos in the engraving thread: https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/2162967-Gun-Engraving/page23
It is a B grade ejector 12 ga. custom ordered by a prominent individual from Winnipeg in 1906 (all the B grades were custom-ordered). At some point I will get photos aand description posted to the show us your sxs and o/u thread.

That's a beautiful Parker. Not many high grade Parker's made it to Canada. Years ago a friend in Calgary collected Parkers and displayed them at the Calgary Easter Gun Show. Most of his Parkers were purchased in the US and imported to Canada. And, when he downsized most of them returned to the US as Canadian collectors weren't overly interested.

DISPLAY Cases - a new direction for the thread?

So I was talking to Pinfire yesterday and told him about a new-to-me-case. Here it is, Steve. It might have been set up for scoped rifles because there were only 4 pairs of pegs. Well, we can't have that!

I recently purchased a nice double with an interesting leg-of-mutton case. It is constructed of nicely tooled leather and hasn't seen much use. I suspect it was made in the 50's as the shotgun it came with dates to that time frame. It has the Abercrobie and Fitch gold embossed logo.

Bill, does that case hold two guns? Or just a single.

I have a couple cases like that that ho;d two guns and they are my favorite cases. Easy to use, easy to store, easy to travel with. I switch to a long zippered case when actually hunting for ease of getting in and out of the vehicle over the course of the day. Always on the lookout for more of those double ended, two gun cases.
