The Gun Dealer

I've bought a few guns from them, ammunition, and accessories. I have been trying to buy a part for one of my handguns now for going on three months. Every time I call I've gotten a broad range of answers, first it was ordered, then I waited over a month and then they told me that it came in but couldn't be found. Then it came in but the wrong one, then they called them but they never called back. Every time I call them, which has been atleast ten times they have never called me back ever. I like to support local business but I'm starting to get wore out on this one.

So, regardless of me not appreciating Hoyt's crappy method of communicating...

At that time, he told me that he would order a quantity of a certain ammo I was seeking and "sell me all I wanted, at a reduced price and ship it for free" (I won't go into the details of why he made me this offer).

Frig, I wouldn't even send Hoyt to them :) Good luck fellas!!

You know... some people just like to complain... and ironically those are the same people that expect stuff for free... The Gun Dealer is a business... they have to make money to meet their payroll and to keep their doors open to serve sportsmen and women in Eastern Canada and the rest of Canada via internet... the margin on guns and ammo is so small that they have very little wiggle room. My son is in outdoor retail, so I know what they are working with.

You siad that you couldn't reach them for a YEAR, but every time I call they pick up the phone... and every message to Ross has been returned...

Here is a story for you;

I talked to a gun counter salesman at TGD and purchased a Ruger 77/44... it was used but in excellent condition... he took my info and PAL and pulled the gun. Apparently the gun was placed on the gun counter for processing, but while the fella I had talked to was occupied another customer saw the gun said he would buy it and it was mistakenly sold by another salesman... the fella paid and left quickly. When the salesman I talked to found out what had happened, he related the story to Ross's daughter... she searched all over Canada to find a replacement and eventually bought the only one found from Prophet River NEW at retail minus 10%... she had the rifle shipped directly from PR to me... The Gun Dealer took a $200 loss on the deal but did so to honour their word... they could have just said "Oops, sorry."

Your story only serves to illustrate how unreasonable you are as a customer.

As far as TGD calling a customer back, forget it. My buddy wanted to order 1000 .40 S&W 155gr bullets and the guy at the counter couldn't tell him what shipping to NS would cost. My buddy asked for a call back, with a shipping quote and the guy said he would.....................no call. It's hard to spend money at a store, when management put's zero priority on communication with those of us that cannot walk through their door. "Atlantic Canada's Largest Firearms Store", yes and the worst customer service, as well.

Hoyt, Why don't you go try to act like a God for the little girlies in your life. Us middle aged gun guys don't want to hear your rhetoric, which you seemingly roll out to make yourself feel better, at the expense of others. I don't care if anyone else has had success with TGD, I didn't.............fact. Now go try to impress someone else and quit trolling real folks, with real experiences, that are every bit as much and maybe more, legitimate than yours. GFYS :)

Bigfoot 870 have you ever been to TGD in person ? I have been there on many occasions and can understand why you may not have got a call back with a steady flow of customers to the counter and the phone ringing pretty much non stop . they are busy and your call back got missed . its happened to me the next time I call and ask to speak with Ross or Justin .I explain the situation and always have been looked after with the best of service .

Well... I have been around for more than a half century... shooting for most of that... I think you are unreasonable... you think I am God... I guess we will leave it at that.

You have a great day, and good shooting.

Sorry to have to share a bad experience, because I previously purchased firearms from here w/o issue. However, after multiple unreturned emails and phone calls (I'm in Ontario so going into the store isn't an option), I finally got a hold of someone today without satisfaction.

In short, ordered a used shotgun 3 barrel combo listed as "new" on their website. By their own definition for their firearm conditions, "new = not previously sold at retail; in condition received". I've previously bought unfired used from them, so I thought no issue.

To my surprise, I received a completely different gun than the description. Same manufacturer, different model. The major issue, however, is I would describe the gun as "very good".....but certainly not new. Manufacture date is 2012. I assume the previous owner had a different stock on it, b/c the factory stock was stuck back on so loose it would be unsafe to fire. I'm talking only a couple threads attached and so loose you can rattle it. The rifled barrel looks like it was fired for a few seasons without cleaning and never touched by TGD.

Are these major issues that I can't fix myself? No.....but the point is that it's completely different from what I thought I was purchasing. Nobody would buy a "new" car and be satisfied to find out it has 10k on it. Finally speaking to someone today at the gun counter, I would have been happy with some effort at remedying the situation. Nope. I was told "well, you didn't pay that much" ($500 is more than pocket change) and was told my option is to ship it back either for refund or for them to examine at my own expense.

Everybody makes mistakes now and then, but I'm very disappointed with the lack of response and blasé attitude when I got a hold of them. Gun will be returned and I'll no longer be a customer.

While I havent made a purchase from TGD yet, I did come very close to it about a year back. I saw the listing and made the call. The phone was answered immediately. I asked my questions, I got my answers and then was referred to a female (cant remember her name) who emailed me additional pictures within the hour. Upon receiving her email, I let her know that I was going to be looking at another gun locally before I made my decision. She advised that she would place the gun on hold until I made my decision. I ended up going with the local deal as the gun had nicer woodgrain. I emailed her back and she thanked me for the heads up. All communication by telephone and by email was timely and on point. I was left with an excellent impression of how they do business and wouldnt hesitate to give them business in the future.

I'm a long term customer of TGD, the long term speaks volumes by itself because I don't deal with people who are not gentlemen and good business people. Sometimes we agree and a deal is made , sometimes we disagreed and no sale/trade/purchase is made however overall I am happy with TGD and will continue to shop at their store.
Lost

I've never had a problem dealing with TGD. I haven't bought any guns from them, new or used however. I have bought ammunition from them with zero problems.
