lever action rifles are said to have one the west but nowadays barely anyone shoots lever repeaters anymore. Are the days of the lever action over?

Nope...just sorted through everything and got mine (see other posts if interested).

The classic styling (Marlins, Winchester, etc.) are just that...classic. The BLR styling is newer and can handle those modern cartridges.

That, ladies and gentlemen, I think is the essence of the matter. Those classic styles, with the classic cartridges are no longer ###y for most people. All the rags write about the 6.5 Creedmore or this new cartridge or that. It's new, new, new.

Me, I got into the lever because of the cowboy shooting, always wanted one and like the idea of shooting with that nice little rifle.

With cowboy shooting, got into the cast bullets. That opened up a whole new world for me as now I have a cheap plinker and an accurate rifle to start silhouette shooting.

No, the lever is here to stay, but it couldn't hurt for some of us to promote it better too!

Hard pressed to say what caliber has taken more "local" deer over the last 50 years...30-30, or .303.

They are no longer what they "were"...The '94 was a very affordable, practical, light, etc. rifle for decades. Those that have 'em still hunt with them, or "collected" them. When I was a young'un, every gas station/corner store had 30-30 ammo.

From a milsurpy standpoint, they were certainly revolutionary.

I dont know where you get your info but I know all kinds of guys that use lever guns. There has to be at least 5 in my hunt camp.

on a side note .303 bullet prices have gone through the roof too. i remember when .303 were under half the price of what they are now.

most people i know would take a semi-auto over a lever action but i guess looking at the comments some people still enjoy a good lever action rifle.

Over the past couple years I have been shooting gophers with Model 1873 Winchesters in 32-20, 38-40 and 44-40. They are an absolute blast to shoot.
Had fellow on a country road skid to a stop and call out, asking what kind of gun is that. I told him, and he pointed out where I could find more gophs. That was a great day!!!!!

I have beaten people semi's at our local comp. with my lever gun don't matter how fast it shoots if you can't hit sh-t . But this is more user skill than the gun I sure a good semi should run faster.
Hey Alonzo is living proof he beat all the 10-22's with his bolt gun at our speed gopher shoot and will not let me live it down dam gun kept jaming !@#$%.

Ihave and had the Milsurps and they can be a bore....but not ever with my '94.

I go on a old time deer hunt and only levers are invited...has been as many as 70 people show up. Great times.

I hunt deer with my levers every season. Either a scoped Savage 99 or a Winchester '95 with irons. Another hunting buddy uses a 30-30.

I hunt whitetail with a scoped Browning BLR in .308 and my father uses a mid 50's Winchester Model 94 30-30.

Nothing is as nice to carry in the bush as a little Winchester.

John's right.... as usual.

Advertising is one thing, reality another.

Don't believe me, ask General Custer. He heard that the Sioux weren't well armed.
.

I have a Winchester Lever Action and I would love to buy another but everyone wants a pretty penny for them. I also wish, for the fun it is to shoot them, that it didn't cost almost a dollar per round because it is so much fun to run that action fast :p

I'll bet money that Custer wished he had more lever action's.I would bet even more money, that he would wish he was born 20 years later and had some Winchester 1895 in .30-40 Krag or 7.62 Russian

I have several lever action rifles and I am not all that old of a guy. I also have more modern tactical rifles but I still love a nice lever. A Henry 22 mag that cycles so smooth and positive that it puts any bolt rifle to shame is something to admire. I also have a Marlin and a Savage in a lever. Great rifles!
