The H&K SFP9: Initial thoughts and observations **range report added on post 61**

not interested in a walther ppx for 3 times the price

three times the price? Whoa! Let me know where you're finding the PPX for $300. I'd totally pick a couple of those up for that price. :p:p

But honestly from my little bit of reading you can't compare the PPX to the VP9.

PPQ vs VP9 is a better comparison. The PPX is an entry level budget based pistol. Clearly it's lacking the same quality the PPQ and VP9 have. But it still looks like an awesome little pistol for the price.

^^ PPQ is definitely the more accurate comparison. I'd like to see a 'shoot-out'. PPQ has quite a following (though I have to say, personally, I prefer the DA/SA w/decocker on the P99).

Well ok fine then 2 times the price but u know what iam saying.....HK copied the ppx just look at them

The Walther PPX range kit looked tempting at ~ $500 (Online Dealers). When I actually saw one in person …… I passed. It's a big blocky HG unlike the ###y P30L v3 I ended up with.
The VP9 reminded me of my G17 too much….

Um, you might want to look closer at the HK P30 series. The VP9/SFP9 are identical minus the hammer and the P30 has been around for quite a number of years now...

If I recall.

Walther made P99.
HK followed with P2000. It had multiple rear grip inserts like P99
P2000 led to P30.
Walther came up with PPQ...copying p30 grip texture and giving a sweet single action trigger with Glock like trigger safety lever.
HK made vp9/sfp9

I don't really think of the P2000 as a successor to the P99, though. It's more of a refined version of the USP or maybe a forerunner of the HK45c.

it was the first HK to have multiple grip inserts like the P99. More to 'compete' with. I like the P2000 for its compactness. LEM trigger is good.
Basically you have two lines that 'steal' ideas from the other for their new model.

Everyone copies everyone. the whole "we did it first" argument is pointless and really means nothing when it comes to the actual product.

Walther has likely had ideas inspired by HK. HK has likely had ideas inspired by Walther.

I don't think either company wants to start an Apple vs Samsung styled fight

CRAFM has it in stock

I saw when I did an EE search, but it was from back in December, so I wasn't sure if they still had it. That's my club, so I will see tomorrow night when I go, but I could save $100 by getting it from the shooting centre listed below. Everyone at CRAFM seems super sold on the CZ 75 SP-01 for IPSC, but I'm still sold on HK having used it as my sidearm for a bit. I think I may eventually have to get both lol.

HK USP developed into the USP compact,...which begot the P2000...which developed into the P30/ P30L,...which then developed into the VP9/ SFP9. I handled both the SFP9 and the Walther ppx,..the PPX has a better trigger, but not buy much and hardly noticeable under match conditions. The ppx reminds me of the Hi point. Big and bulky up top.

Totally agree - not sure anyone cares who did what first but if you are going to give credit to someone... :)

I should have a SFP9 within a few weeks so will be able to compare to the P30 I had. Only dry fired the PPQ and loved it but seems like the HK is more ergonomic with it's multiple side strap panels.

Just received my SFP9 and It feels unreal! The fit and finish is flawless and it feels like it was custom to fit my hand perfectly.

Can't wait to take it to the range as soon as my paperwork arrives for it.

Keep in mind this is my first pistol, But I'm blown away by the quality of this little Tupperware gun.
