The H&K SFP9: Initial thoughts and observations **range report added on post 61**

I finally had a chance to take it to the range for the first time today—it's been tough to get to the range. Here's a quick run-down. It was not a bad late February day—no snow and temperatures just below freezing. I have a tradition of trying a full mag at 10m from a new gun without any practice—just load and fire to get a true cold first impression.

and here is the result:

Not bad--about three inches. The cold air and my dry hands (I really don't like shooting with gloves) made the grip texture a little extra slippery, but it was manageable. Ammunition was 124 gr Sellier and Bellot FMJ—it's a favourite of mine. Thankfully, I experienced no "bite" on the bottom of my trigger finger from the trough in the trigger guard—this was a problem for me the the HK45s I've owned. The pistol pointed very naturally for me and the crisp trigger made it easy to shoot quickly.

About the only issue was that with the sun almost directly behind me (which is preferable to being directly in front) there was significant glare of the rear sight—this was the picture I was getting:

It made it tougher than usual to get a clear picture.

I tried the last five shots of the day at 20m to get an idea of accuracy at a bit longer range.

The group is about 2.6", with the four closest ones about 1.75". I was very please with this accuracy given the sighting challenges.

In summary, I'm very pleased with the pistol. It's accurate, comfortable, reliable and easy to shoot.
