i agree, paying a little bit more for brand new make sense, i barely never buy a used firearm.
And at a retailer, you have all the benefits that goes along with using a credit card.

I recall the same thing happening when the government of the day was going to ban small "Saturday Night Special" firearms; what we now refer to as the 12(6) guns.
A lot of the people that had these guns dumped them, figuring that it would be better to sell them now rather than lose them later.
When the government grandfathered them, most of these people never qualified for the 12(6) status as they had gotten rid of them.
I knew a couple of people that happened to; and they deeply regretted it afterwards.
If I didn't have a pistol, I would buy one now. Even one of those Tokarev lowers.
What about auctions? Just from following a few auctions on line I've seen some decent buys. But there's more risk. As I found out when I bought an old 22LR target pistol in the last (Oct 2018) Switzer auction, rated by them 8/10. But it doesn't function -- jams after one round, with any brand of ammo -- and needs about $150 in work, according to the gunsmith I've left it work. He has to make a new extractor for it. The "extractor" it came with is an obviously home made botched attempt at making a replacement one. Whoever consigned it to the auction must have known it doesn't function. And yes, I know, the auction house's fine print says they don't guarantee anything. Switzer won't even reply to an e mail. I like to think that with the rating system on CGN EE, that's less likely to happen here. I wouldn't buy another pistol at auction unless I had a reason (rarity, perhaps) to be willing to take the risk of getting a dud gun. (Another time I bought an old 22LR target rifle from an auction in Edmonton, and it was perfect.)
I built an AR; was just going to buy the upper and lower set, but one thing lead to another... Having shot one back in the early eighties, I forgot how nice they shoot with good ammo! virtually no felt recoil, and my hot little 55gr home loads shoot sub moa at 100 yards, often <3/4"! I wish we could hunt with these!
Anyway, if they become prohib, I will be a Grandfather!
BTW, I'm thinking of building another in short carbine length; the first one has a 20" barrel.

I wannabe one of those ultra-cool 12X guys.![]()
I can't afford 12(x), that would open up a whole new purchasing rampage.
