The JR Carbine Thread

Got the 9mm, just need to range test it now

That looks sweet. My friend bought one and it comes with a short mag that holds 10. I have a black one in 9mm and have had no issue except for the bolt handle came loose. some blue lockiight and runs like a champ. Factory loads and home rolled lead. The gun is great well worth the money

TNT Gunworks in Regina had one of each calibre a couple of weeks ago, all the updated versions; Allen head takedown bolts, threaded barrels. I was in there today and I "think" I saw two of them there, mind you I wasn't looking for them particularly. If there are still two, they would be a .40 and a .45. I know there isn't a 9mm on the wall because I bought it.

QUOTE=wood800;10067422]Anyone know where to get a JR I'm 45 that is the updated version that cycles and works? My local shop has an older version with no threaded barrel that I believe has problems, have a few cases of 45 and don't want to buy a lemon[/QUOTE]

there is no convincing you not too... lol just got my licence recently and got a tacticooled out 10/22 and since I've been trying to figure out what i want next, was looking at shotguns and hunting rifles i do plan on doing alot of hunting... when my buddy first told me about the jr carbine i honestly didn't like the concept... then i went to a range and shot a couple ar's and handguns i was convinced to get my restricted, but whats the point you can only use it at the range, i go shooting at a buddys house and in the bush all the time, cant do that with a ar.. so i did a little research on the jr and have been looking at them the last few weeks.. needless to say i saw one on sale here the other day.. 779.99 brand new 9mm reaper... couldn't go wrong, cant really afford it right now but 780!! NEW couldn't afford not too lol, so i debated it all morning at work the other day IM BUYING IT, no, no im not, no i shouldnt get it, ahh #### it im buying it, msg'd the girlfriend who im really trying to turn into a gunnut(shes coming along, and im lovin it) she really didnt want me to do it cause her income has been cut significantly lately and i'm paying all the bills and shouldn't be spending 1000 on something we dont need, needless to say later that day after work i was at my buddys house plinking away and made the phone call, i got off the phone and i had that mischievous smile on my face(you know the one from when you were a child and you were doing something you knew you shouldn't be doing) long story short my ol' lady isn't impressed with me right now but i'm watching my front door for the delivery man with that same mischievous smile on my face.. cant wait for it to come in, only thing is i guess they messed up on the advertising on the website.. in order for me to get the reaper for 779 id have to purchase a magpul forgrip and a browning buckmark reflex sight... now all i need is a few more mags and a stockpile of 9mm ammo... all in all, stop trying to convince yourself not to buy it, go get it, get in now, you know your going to love it as much as i'm going to enjoy mine :)

I don't know that you can make a really strong argument to buy one as a "must have"...there isn't a think that it does that can't be handled as well or better by other guns.

BUT...and that's a big "but", it does a couple of things really well. First, it's a great plinking/range gun. Ammo (9mm at least) is cheaper than .17HMR so you can have a ton of fun with it at the range. It's a good truck gun; not too pretty that you couldn't toss it in the back of your truck and bounce down a gravel road. the calibre is small enough that you can shoot gophers without blowing them to pieces, but still has enough punch to knock down a coyote or a beaver with no trouble.

It's also made me re-think a home defence gun. Like lots of others, I have a 12 ga. that will get business done...if I'm shooting it. My wife is not crazy about it because of the brutal recoil, so it may as well be a single shot instead of a semi auto; she's not going to pull the trigger a second time. The JR, really in any calibre, but 9mm especially, has almost no recoil. At 10-15 ft. she can tear through a full magazine and keep a group you can cover your hand with in around 2 seconds. No huge concern with over penetration, even with hot FMJ rounds.

I never expected that this gun would get nearly as much use as it does. My copy has worked flawlessly; dirty, clean, factory loads, hand-loads, FMJ or cast bullets...doesn't matter, it eats everything. I have had one FTF in 1500 rounds...one. That one round had a bad primer. It's a very solidly built, nicely machined rifle. I REALLY like the concept of it being ambidextrous and being able to change calibre's without buying a new gun. So much of it is AR compatible, you can tweak it as much as you want.

Do you NEED a pistol calibre carbine? Damn straight you do! Buy one. Shoot it lots. Smile.

Just got my digital tan JR. Pretty fun gun. I went with the .45 acp that takes 1911 mag. I noticed that most guys on here seem to have the 9mm or .40 cal. glock mag compatible. Anyway, my question is can you get a 1911 10 or more mag that is reliable and where could I get them? Super sick pics of JR carbines on this thread BTW!

Why didn't I look into these before I blew my tax return money !!!!! I'm very intrigued.... Saving up for one starting now !!!!

Nice guns fellas

I don't own a 1911 anymore, and never got to try these magazines, but everyone tells me Tripp Research 1911 magazines are the bee's knees and they ship direct to Canada.

They are quite the dirty beasts, cleaned after about 400 rounds, lots of caked on carbon. Need to find the right size nylon brush to clean the action as it is a bit of a pain to get to properly.

Blowback designs get really dirty, fast. Mine runs best well oiled, just have to clean it quite often. My Thureon Defense doesn't get as dirty and goes longer between cleanings.

I run mine as wet as possible. I use M-Pro 7 it's super stuff. Makes clean ups a snap. I have found a 12 gauge swab is great for cleaning the upper out.

Couldn't help myself. There was a good deal at a gunshow yesterday, and I sold a rifle at the same time, so I jumped on a black 45ACP one. Also found some cheap magpul flip up sights.

I'd like to keep the iron sights, but I hate quad rails. I love plain unadorned tube type fore ends, especially ones that look like old school MG cooling shrouds.

Anyone recommend a Good one? Preferably one that I can mount a short rail section to the top front for the front sight?

I think the ones that use a proprietary barrel nut are likely the most secure ones, so that's no issue for me.

Also - my barrel is threaded so I'd be open to picking up a nice muzzle device to complete the look. I expect google will tell me where to find a 45 cal one, but advice would help too
