The longest shot

4 wild boars bust out running out from creek bottom into an open field. Held high and ahead of lead pig, missed, 2nd shot adjusted and drew bead on lead pig again... squeezed off and tipped the third one back, head over heels. I drove from where I shot; to the dead pig and odometer rolled over 700 meters. I would like to say I could shoot like that all day at running targets; but I have to chalk that one up to mainly luck.
You sir, are a lucky man sir!
Few of us have the opportunity to shoot/hunt non-game species in such open terrain.
The added de rigueur factor of possibly dangerous game is a bonus!!

I shot a mule deer doe at 380 yards with a 308 in 2006. It was a pretty easy shot though, no wind, dead rest.

The best two shots I've ever made were in the 250 range.

Last year I stalked a nice 8 point buck across an enourmous field and I was busted with no where to go and no rest so I dropped it with one shot from my 6.5x55 at 254 yards off hand. I didn't realize how far it was until after the shot and I paced it off.

The other great one was on a Kudu in South Africa, we stalked around a small mountain, and I shot it from one side to the other side of a canyon. The shot was 230 metres(by the PH's range finder) with a huge sidewind, we estimated it well over 20 mph, at least a 3 club wind in golf term. I held almost two feet off my target for windrift and it wasn't enough my first shot was still a bit forward , but my second was perfect.

355 yds, 139 gr SST, 280 Rem out of a Ruger 77 with a Burris Fullfield II 3-9X-40mm. Running straight away and slightly uphill. Held just ahead of her nose and rolled her. My buddy was amazed at the shot and even said it on video. When I find among the computer maze here I will post it. The yardage was from a Bushnell 1000ARC RF.

Where I hunt deer it's mostly in the sub 100m bush of Ontario, but my longest shot on a deer was when I was on a rock face looking down into a swamp. Shot him at approx 260m (by GPS). That's about as far as I'd shoot any big game animal, but have spent time shooting paper well beyond that.
