What is the longest shot you have ever taken a big game animal with and the details of what you were shooting and bit of the story as well....:)

Could care less if the longest shot was 50 yrds,....just has to be your longest shot.

175 yards on a deer. Most of mine are at between 80 and 120 yards. Any deer I've had a chance to take a shot at that were further, were typically way further, like 400 plus and I'm unprepared for such a shot. StreetGlide, LOL

Had permission to hunt a farm that was otherwise off limits. It was 600yds across the field. Deal was, couldn't actually go on the field. Had to set up on the edge. If I actually got a deer, I had to go and get the farmer who would then take me out to where I shot the deer.
So, if I got a shot, you can see that I HAD to make it count.
Result, venison in the freezer.
Whitetail buck. 554yds. Mauser Gewahr K98 chambered .30-06. 165gn Nosler Partition 59.8gn IMR4350.
Proof you don't need a magnum.

When I lived on the prairie I had a few 400 yard deer.

Now that I live in the bush I haven't shot at game much further than 100 yards for a long time. A few years ago I had to make one of those "long shots" everyone talks about on a big moose and it felt like a mile, the range finder only showed 200 yards.:D

Used my father's Winchester 30-30 Carbine circa 1956, ammo, Winchester 150 grain factory Silvertip. Williams rear peep and front Firesite, my modification. November 22nd of 2005, I was in a ground blind at my favorite trail intersection in the Cold Lake Petroleum Oilfields. Heard a deer startle and run at about 7:30 AM. Considered myself compromised so I quietly packed up, and went to investigate another doe that had crossed @350 yards in front of me a bit earlier, with her tail tucked and ears flat for some reason.
Upon searching her trail & on the way back, a buck caught me in the open field of winter wheat! IIRC,we seemed to have spotted each other at the exact same moment. Can't shoot prone, can't shoot kneeling due to the wheat. Had to pull off, and very soon, a standing offhand shot. Forced myself to relax, he was 3/4's onto me and standing very still, no wind. Aimed for his white throat patch as I knew he was far & previously my rifle was sighted very high on purpose. Squeezed it off, and he tried to take one step but fell instead. Reloaded with my eyes glued to him as I approached and pacing off the distance. Came to about 250 yards & I was very very happy. Time was about 9:15 AM or so. Bullet entry was two inches left of centre of his chest. No exit wound.

A nice whitetail buck at about 80 paces. I live where it is mostly heavy bush but this buck was across a clear-cut. 120 gr. 6.5x55 in the chest - ran about 20 yds and dropped.

Bull moose, 325m away, hart shot, LH Rem mod 788 in 7-57 RCBS (28deg)imp, old Leupold M8 4x28(32?)mm, 20" barrel, 150gr RemSPCL propeled by casefull of Win 760, rifle shot with support of heavy pine branch in sitting position.

I hit a big groundhog at 417 yards with my 25-06. But for actual big game I took a doe on the run at 257yards to the blood splatter on the grass. It was a cva 50cal front stuffer. Sitting on a ridgetop where I sit with the bow a lot saw them cross the meadow out in the pasture below. I let the 4 does go hoping for a buck 20 mins later they go hopping back the way they came. Were about 100yards then I decided if I had the bow I'd be #####in I didn't have the rifle so I pulled up aimed at her ears and pulled a deer length out front and she summersaulted. I dam near $hit myself. Took another shot as she came running to 5 yards broadside to lay her down tho. The first shot went thru the brisket and thru the thigh of the offside front leg. Platinum powerbelts 338 grain. 100 grains 777. I have buddies that can back me on it. I hunt bantario so long shots are usually just outta slingshot range

750 meters, 7mm rem mag, open sights. Doe whitetail across a gravel pit, went down on the second shot.
looked at the odometer on my pickup I got a witness too. No skill on that one just stupid luck!

Paced out 225 m, so a probable error of about 10m either way. My first deer, a small mule doe with a fully stocked Enfield No.4 with a Weaver K2.5x, Federal ammo, 180gr. And my most recent deer, a whitetail doe taken with a NEF Handi-Rifle in .308, with a Brunton Echo 1.5-6x40, Federal ammo again, 150gr.

Normally I try to set up on a killing ground within 100m but in those two instances conditions were very good and I had time to get into the prone position.

On the Scottish Hills about 200 to 250 yards, Sussex woodlands one of 260 yards but everything else is under 150 and usually a whole lot closer!
