THE "LTR" thread

oh and what did group did you shoot first?and was the barrel clean and cold when you started?

Barrel was cold and clean to start

The first group was with the 168 4064 on the top right (I have never had a good time with that combination actually in the past) the second was just below it to the left, then the top left, then below that, then the 168 BLC(2) in the middle right, then the bottom two were last.. IIRC.

CCI primers, not sure on mag length (they were actually some crappy brass (prefired mix of rem, fed, and win.

was with bipod and rear bag (kind of.. not a bag but an ammo box lol) -- no idea on velocity.. been wanting to get ahold of a chrono for a while now. Trigger is a crisp 2lb and the rifle isn't bedded. everything except the trigger is stock.

Ok for load testing and this is what I do

and to be fair to all of your loads fire at least 5 fodder rounds to foul your bore(I do not clean my barrel till the groups open up again this is just what I do)

then I shoot round robin style one shot of each load at there own target wait 30/50 seconds per shot and keep doing it till I do 5 for each

I also do all my testing off of sandbags and my scope is set to its highest power

I bet if your bore was warm and dirty (like a good girl:evil: ) it would have done much better

I would also DITCH the 4064 for IMR 4895 I have found I get the max speed and no signs of presure with it,I also run Federal 210m primers

when I bring my rifle in from the cold I open the bolt and let it sweat then run a wet oiled patch down the bore then dry patch it dry

Yea, that trip was actually mainly to get rid of old ammunition that I didn't plan on using for anything in particular, and to get rid of the brass. I have some brand new brass waiting to be loaded up.

I did ditch the 4064, thats what my main goal at the range was. RL15 works much better. I know I could have done much better with a more sturdy setup but I did the best with what I had at the time. I'll give 4895 a try as well as the primers (once I finish up the ones I have now)

The load I did up with the RL15 for hunting is actually really good (not in the picture)

Jamie: Thanks a lot, I'd really appreciate that. I'll need all the help I can get.

Blackcloud: I'll definately be trying those out. The price isn't much different than that of Sierra's, and it sounds like an outstanding round, so I'll definately give it a shot (honestly no pun intended there).

Thanks,
-Rohann

Alright guys you made me buy a brand new LTR in .308, already have the 308 Vortex ordered and arwenace is poised to pull the barrel and thread & mount the Vortex & install a tactical bolt handle, Murdoc will be refinishing the whole gun in a colour to be yet decided on (Dark Earth), and TPS rings & bases with Leupold M2 Dark Earth optic, you bastards

gadget

Update have the gun in my possession, and have also ordered the Badger Ordnance detachable magazine system, I figure 2 - 10rd & 2 - 5rd magazines should be enough, Farrell Industries base & Tactical Precision rings, the great money pit continues.

Sticking with the factory one for now, unless my friend down south sends me a present

Watch the EE- there will be a good option very soon...

As for finding a load, I built my match gun before the 154 scenar came on the scene, so I built it w/ a 1-11 Rock barrel finished at 27" in order to get the most out of the 175 smk. It flat out shoots them, and is fast to boot. I'm getting right around 2750 fps w/ varget and lapua brass. I arrived at that load by loading 5 rounds each in .3 gr. intervals and shooting groups. After I found a powder charge, I tried a couple of different seating depths and settled on what shot the best. That was 4 years ago. The only tinkering I've done since is adjust the charge a bit when I switched powder lots. Since then I've just shot as much as I can and tried to keep good notes. I think settling on a load and learning how it shoots in evry condition beats junping around from load to load chasing something that just might be better. I've won and lost to 154's from 300 to 900 m., but I've neveer been outclassed by a load. A good windcaller yes, but not a load.

Having said that, I'm going to do a bit of testing w/ 154's this spring to see if they shoot as well as the 175's. If so, then they fly closer to the wind, and that might make changing worthwhile, but they will have to really impress me before I ditch the load that's brought me this far.

Well, got it yesterday. Almost had to leave it there due to a paperwork error on their part, but in true Epps fashion they worked through the problem and sent me home with my new gun!!!!

Now I just have to work out the cam pattern I want to paint on it. Thinking of Arid CADPAT :)

I'd very much doubt that it was; I know at least 5 people from CGN have bought an LTR in the last while, and it seems to be selling very well.

The LTR is no longer in the remmy catalog, Has it been discontinued?

You won't find it in the regular Remington catalog with the hunting rifles and varmint guns. Check on the Remington Law Enforcement web site.
