What's with the saw cut through the front sight area in this gas cylinder? Spotted it on E bay and saw a similar one for sale in the EE.

IIRC the saw cuts were done for fit on undersized barrels, and would be a better fit when the front sight was tightened.
Once you get a receiver from SFRC (or 10) you are on your way. The cost of parts is escalating due to a crap CDN$$ but the parts are out there. There are creative ways to get what you need and if you ask around there is usually someone with the tools to do the barrel install and ream if necessary. (chrome bore barrels = no finish reaming)Boyds stocks are ok but for perfect fit and finish DGR guns is the way to go. ( and he ships to Canada). More$$ but worth the coin. Numrich will ship here as well and they have some serviceable parts. Patience is the key to good results.
Correct. It was a quick fix for a sloppy fit.

That cylinder looks like it would swallow a gauge, I would be vary careful buying gas systems that look like that, they may cycle a rifle but accuracy will suffer with a worn out gas system.
Looks like about 25 Garand worth.

They shoot like a $1,000,000.00! There is one .308 hiding in there that has great potential in the hands of an experienced shooter. (I am not that one)
