Hey all,

Well I finally got my SKS from Arma-coat. And I must that I was thoroughly impressed with the job that Barret did. I got it done in Manganese and it came out a nice Dark Grey. Unfortunately I did not get the stock done, and I am kicking myself in the ass for not spending the extra $$'s to get it refinished as well. The laminate was not that great and didn't look good with the new finish. Luckily I had a Choate stock kicking around and some Tech Sites, as well as a Williams Firesite to slap on it to make it look cool ... :D

And no I didn't bubba it, I did take the bayonet off. And was contemplating grinding off the bayo mount but I told myself I wouldn't do it.

I also had a chance to fire it today using good 'ole corrosive surplus that I had lying around and this is what I shot at 50yrds.

I was aiming at the bottom of the page in order to get it on the paper. I have come to the conclusion that the Williams Firesite sits to high in the front globe and makes it shoot to high. The TS200 I have ran out of elevation and I wasn't able to bring it down. I was kind of hoping to shoot a couple inches high at 50yds not 9". So the Williams site is getting removed and I am going back to the factory drum and post.

And ... I just order a BC Tactical scout mount so look forward to seeing another upgrade .. :D ;)

It looks great!
Real utilitarian.
I'm kind of surprised you can't lower that Firesight enough to get it on target.
Remember it would shoot a bit high at 50yds to drop on to POA at 100yds.
Also just use the snowball hold (my preferred method) of top point of ball at bottom point of target ball and it should be fairly close.

Maybe I wasn't setting it low enough. I ran out of time and bullets earlier so I am going out in the morning to fiddle with it somemore. I crank all the way down this time and start from there.

That looks real nice. Not ninja at all. I agree with Diananike in that it looks very utilitarian. Nice job.

I just called it that because I know how most people like the look of wood on their SKS's. I do to, but this time the wood have taken away from the excellent work done by Barret.

Uh.... The lower you adjust your front sight the higher youre POI will be...

OP's front sight isn't high enough for his 50yrd zero.

That's the one problem with the Williams Firesight, it's at a fixed height in the globe. All the elevation adjustments have to be done by the rear sight. So from what I understand from the other posters, lowering the rear sight will change my POI lower, it's just the reverse.

No matter what the comments are/will be, before i even read them, i said to myself nice, i like it! But the groupings suck no fence, even for an sks. I thought they would have tightened up a lot more with the new sights and bipod hmm.. then again depends on what surplus you are using. Shouldn't be blaming the sks nor the shooter for poor groups when feeding it crappy surplus ammo, doesn't do justice. But either way its a very nice looking sks!

Edit: ^^^ LOL at video above

No offense taken. I wasn't taking my time when I shot my last 10rds. Those were about 3-4 sec apart, just long enough to get it back on target and squeeze the trigger.

I just finished installing my Wolfe springs and polishing up the sear, the trigger doesn't feel so gritty now. I am hoping with that done, it will help improve some of the accuracy. Tomorrow I'll take my time and see if I can get those groups tighter.

How do you like the choate stock?

I am looking to replace my sks stock, are you happy with the choate? I have no interest in the tapco and less interest in anything ATI. Thanks in advance

It's very comfortable with a longer LOP than the original stock, more like a typical hunting rifle The fit is it tight with no play in it what so ever. My last SKS had a Tapco on it and I didn't want to go that way again.

If you don't mind, what was the cost of that cool coating job?Project looks great! I bought, installed, shot, and uninstalled a Firesight, it was tough to get on paper at 50, shot so high. And it was leaning, almost needed shimming, then the screw supplied with it popped thru the hole meant to hold against it, so I got rid of that junk.I like the look of those tech sights.I got the aperture that replaces the facory rear sight position.

My ATI folder took quite a bit of bedding before the rifle wasn't loose. Once that was done my rifle is just as accurate as it was in its OEM stock.
It IS NOT a drop in be done piece of equipment.
