The Medium Bore Thread

No Hoyt, that for some reason, is how they like to photo them, not sure why, my guess is that it shows the greatest amount of ivory. The shot was square between the eyes and 6" up, perfect frontal brain before he turned us into furry guava jelly, which we could tell he was about to attempt. Shot at 21 mtrs!!

They are the only animal on the planet that still scare me even with a suitable rifle in my hands. They are without a doubt the most aggressive, obnoxious animal I have ever hunted, they make grizzlies look like warm fuzzy teddy bears, when comparing personalities.

Even more so than hippo?

SB.............Hippos aren't twice my height and not near as aggressive, they are also much easier to hurt and make them think twice about biting one in half. Lions after dark are also very scary critters, not so in the daylight, but they morph into devils after darkness falls.

Good info..... I was kind of in the mindset that, if something was going to kill me I would prefer it was very large and dangerous so it would be over quickly..... Lol

Other than a couple of weeks gator hunting I have never had anything try to bite me back or charge me...... Or even threaten me in any way...... Except for one bear that ran in my direction because it didn't know where the shot came from and an amorous looking bull moose that looked like he was eying me up for wabunga, but thought better of it and moved on...... Lol

An hippos mostly laze around in the rivers waiting to get brain shot. Jumbo might just take a notion to murder you, even if you're not hunting him. I feel privileged to belong to the "I Ran Away From Elephants That Were Chasing Me" club.

I have been "active" in this club several times and each time causes a great adrenaline rush and a lot of shaking afterwards. So much so that it is impossible to light a cigarette for up to 1/2 hour. It's right up there with the "I Crashed My Airplane Today" club, for the adrenaline rush. After the third duck and run from the elephants program, in two days, I informed my PH that I would no longer be participating in this program. I told him that I was a far superior shot than I was a panicked runner in 45 deg heat and soft sucking sand, so I would be obliged to stand and shoot all who threatened me from there on out. I would then charter a jet and leave the country and explanations to him, where upon he could spend the rest of HIS life in a Botswana prison. He got my point and we started gauging elephant ivory through binos instead of actually trying to get a tape on them before pulling the trigger.
Elephants are most probably one of the trickiest of all the "it's not big enough" catch and release animals one can encounter.

Lol...... I am a member of the ran away from skunk, groundhog, fisher and rabid looking fox club....... I can only imagine elephant....

Steven Rinella talks about different kinds of fun. There are things that are fun when you're doing them, like partying at the bar or riding a roller coaster. then there are things that are fun afterwards, like goat hunting or being chased by elephants.

Being chased by elephants is AWESOME!!!
