The Medium Bore Thread

Ardent.............you trying to turn this into another big bore thread.............photo shows 1 mid bore and 3 biggies............look out here comes the 45-70 crowd again............;)

Held back on that pic to start, but the single .375 makes it legal!

Sounds like something I'd try to say.

Your thoughts were certainly the thinking point that spurned it, but hadn't had enough scotch to burble something out. Spending way too much time making the money to have the fun presently, but I've discovered life's hard if you do and harder if you don't.

Heres my 416 Taylor, built by my Brother over 25 yrs. ago.
An 03A3 Springfield action, Douglas Premium octagon barrel, multi-leaf rear sight and many other goodies, stock by him also.
Its a real tackdriver but you know you are shooting something when you squeeze the trigger.
I have yet to blood it but it has taken a Bison and several Bear.

Very nice! I have a 1903 in 358 Norma Mag i bought of Why Not years ago, over the years ive ended up with another complete 03 bolt opened up to magnum bolt face, someday when i run across a reciever for cheap ill build a 416 taylor

I mounted a Leupold VX-3 1.5-5 on my Ruger RSM in 375H&H with Alaska Arms QD rings. I like it! It will be nice to see how it does at the range with glass. I shot the group in the background with irons.

Cheers
Jay

I found a few more photos of critters terminated by mid bore bullets..........

If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that I'd like to do
Is to save every day
'Til eternity passes away
And then go hunting in Africa :)
It wouldn't be Africa for me. Be the Yukon or Northern BC for a horseback moose hunt ala JOC. That would be tops in my bucket.

WOW nice rifles everyone I figure I'll join in here are my 375 cal rifles.

For comparison 375 Win, 375JDJ, 375H&H, 375RUM brass

CC, love the .375 JDJ's. Dandy cartridge that should be a standard factory chambering in the Pro Hunter. It's dumped the biggest critters on earth from a pistol & is even better from a 22" barrel. Marlin should chamber this round & Hornady should make LeverEvolution ammo fer it.:)

Best thing about these Contender carbines is they are amazingly accurate.

I load 260gr Accubonds in the 21" barrel at appr 2300fps.

With the main reticle zeroed 1" high at 100 yards the first B&C reticle line down is 1" high at 200 yards and the second B&C line down is dead on at 300 yards where the 260gr Accubond is still doing appr 1800fps making this a 300 yard moose/elk/deer/bear hunting combo.

I need to do more work with the 375H&H Prohunter loads my goal is not to push the bullets to fast I'd be happy with 250gr TTSX @ 2500fps and 300gr @ 2400fps giving me a combo that is appr 1/2 way in performance between the 375JDJ and 375RUM which gives me 3220fps with 260gr Accubonds and 2450fps with 350gr TSX.

I also purchased a couple hundred 270gr Hornady Interlock bullets plan is to try them at 2500fps in the 375RUM.

I loaded 260 gr Ballistic Tips to 2600, thinking it would be a good medium game load, and the accuracy was outstanding. Probably the only .375/260 BTs left anywhere are the few I still have loaded. The 270 gr Interlock shot well for me at full speed, and when I loaded them to 1200 fps for small game, so I see no reason for them to take a dump at 2500, but the cores might be a bit hard for them to upset suitably at low impact velocities, on light game.

Can you please elaborate on the two? I have been imagining a whelen as my next in line as ammo is available locally. May have to start looking for a provincial supplier in wagner...
You will find both the 9.3 and the 35Whelen to be redundant with a 375magnum already in place.

I was just ribbing Supercub. I doubt you will notice a difference between them in the real world. Pick whichever one appeals to you more and go for it.

My next purchase, once the herd is thinned a little, will be a stutzen/Mannlicher/full stock. Seems to be easier to find in wagner and whelen. Also thinking .308 which probably makes more sense...

If Wagner was available locally, it would be a no brainer.
