I'm looking all over and I can't quiet find this one in particular. There are Mossberg 590's, 590A1, 590A1 Special Purpose, and the one I'm looking for is a 590A1 SPX 9 shot capacity....

Anyone able to tell me if they all have LPA Italian sights? I'm looking for on that doesn't have the speed loader thing in the stock. The closest thing I found was in wholesale sports where it's a 590A1 special purpose but it only has the 6 shot (description) magazine.

I'm unsure if it has LPA sights..... I tried out a buddy's Mossberg 590 and it blew me away because it was good in quality compared to my 870.

I bought mine, a 590A1 SPX 9 shot with the ghost ring sights from Milarm in Edmonton about a month ago.

This is the link to it on Mossberg's site

I'm not sure if this is the gun you are talking about though.

All in all mine is a great gun, super reliable so far and solidly built.

I do know that depending on spec they do not all have the ghost ring sight. If you look at the specification page in the link they detail pretty much everything you'd like to know about the guns.

I'm starting to think I'm screwed. The Mossberg 590A1 SPX 9-shot is pretty rare.... but wow... don't be fooled. It looks a little plain Jane but it is relatively high in quality. The only thing that didn't sit well with me is the front sites looks like they were brazed on (but they weren't crooked by any means) and the weight of the heavy barrel.

Unlike Remington, the trigger group was all metal (I think aluminum for the assembly) and you can manipulate all the buttons from slide release to the safety with your dominant trigger hand.

Funny thing when I inspected this particular shotgun is the noise of "Cha chik" when you loaded a round that you hear in movies.... the Remington doesn't make that noise more like a "ka-klick) noise.

Oh did I mention of the smoothness of the action? Damn I gotta get one. I'm really picky when it comes to quality and performance and this particular model was outstanding.

I've got the 6-shot 590A1 with the simple bead sight. Absolutely amazing shotgun. Not a single issue in the 1000 or so shells of all varieties I've put through it.

Well worth the price.

So I have a Mossberg M590 A1 SPX with the 8rd tube magazine. The shotgun is very reliable in all operational environments, handles very well and can be brought to bear quickly.

While the gun is heavy it fits my hands well and the controls are placed wisely. When operating this gun it is smooth and feels right when racking the slide. With a little training I have been able to accurately work this gun faster than a semiautomatic shotty. When in the heat of the moment I have yet to short stroke with this shotgun.

The picatinny rail also allows you to put an optic on top as well.
I would suggest an Aimpoint T-1.

I have used this gun in everything from desert to Arctic weather/fighting conditions with no issues.

My only bellyache about the shotgun is that the bayonet is really too much and won't stay affixed when I fire the gun.

All told there are numerous reasons why this shotgun doesn't stay on the shelves for long.

Why is it rare?
Comes and goes just like any other model.

Epps gets them in stock....sells them out...month or so later. They get some more. Few weeks later, they are sold out.

Wanstalls has the highest price I have seen. EPPS and Frontier are less. I hope you didn;t get it there. They always charge more.

SFRC got some in stock about 3wks ago. Most places are sold out of the Mossy 590A1 models. Not too shabby a price at SFRC though I've seen them sold a wee bit less from another retailer who has been out of stock for some time. They're nice shotguns. Out of the box the action is a bit stiff but after a good field strip and degreasing and working the action a bit, she loosens up nicely.

590A1 is a solid shotgun. Have had mine for a few years...100 percent problem free. Can't go wrong with any of the models.

I've read that Mossbergs have a lot of trouble with the safety. It tends to break and is a cheap part. Is this true? Or is it an internet rumour...

I have had no problems with mine. I've even used the damn thing in -42C without a hitch, it was -50C with the wind chill. It wasn't going to stop, but I came close!

Seen two mossberg 590s with plastic safety that failed. but beening said they were plastic and on a gun from 10yrs ago.

I have never heard of a issue with the metal ones.

I'm also looking at the 590A1 SPX, the "fully loaded" version with bayonet mount and 9 round capacity, can't find them anywhere though, gotta wait for 2013 it seems :(
