A couple years ago, I was crossing a wide creek in mid-November. I was walking across the ice when **CRACK** I fell in up to my chest. Long story short... the rifle's action had been submerged, but the barrel had not. After I got warm and dry, I did my best to dry out the action. Later that day the rifle fired just fine and I filled my tag. It was a Rem 700 Mtn rifle in .280. It struck me as rather reliable to be put through a dunking in sub-zero weather and still function without a hiccup.
Super reliable rifles work decade after decade without a hitch.
I've seen quite of few of these rifles. One that stands out is a Win M70 pushfeed. It has been hunted with every season since the early 80's. It's never had to see a 'smith and never given any problems. Very accurate. I really like M70 pushfeeds. You get an excellent firearm often at quite low prices, since everybody wants a CRF when talking Winchester.
