Santa is bringing me a very special pistol this year.

A brand new, unfired Heckler & Koch Mark 23 45ACP built in Germany.

According to all the experts and reviews, this is the most reliable and it is as accurate as the most expensive Custom 1911, i am only quoting what i read, future will tell if it's right but i have no doubts.

An ultra accurate 45 ACP, i did buy from a member here on CGN.
After that what else could you ask, i know, 10X boxes of 230 gr 45 ACP + P a @ 1000 fps and 10 X boxes of 185 gr 45 ACP @ 1225 fps.

Hope Santa make a great gift wrapping… In brown paper.

For now i have a couple pictures to keep me waiting, enjoy.:)

Owned two of these, the first one was an early 1999 version with maritime finish, back then they came in a HK branded camo Eagle manufactured soft case with a bunch of goodies and 3 mags. Shot a few thousand rounds with it and sold it to a collector years later for more than what I paid new. The second one was bought in 2007 and came with the new finish and that HK hard case. I sold it unfired locally and showed the new owner what it could do on the range as he offered 5 boxes to shoot it at the local range.

They are neat pistol, they were designed for the Seals or USSOCOM. They were used in very selective ops, since these are big and cumbersome (they feel like holding a 2x4), they were called boat anchors by the operators that had to use them. They sadly didn't last long and were replaced with more range effective sidearms that are a lot smaller and have increased fire power while being silenced.

In regards to accuracy, they are plenty accurate but won't touch the accuracy of my Les Baer Prowler III with the 10 rounds in 1.5" @ 50 yards option. The trigger is the HK match trigger that's obviously better than the usual service weapon trigger but again not in the same league as the ~3# of my Prowler III.

In term of reliability and extreme durability they are indeed on top of their game. These were designed to shoot over 30k +P rounds without issues or parts replaced. Barrel, slide and frame would sustain over twice that.

The part i like and i find the most important is the fact that they are ultra accurate.

I read in some testing less than 1.5 inch at 25 yards was the norm.
Under an inch at 25 yards was often achieve.
1/2 inch at 25 yards and 5 bullets went in the same hole at 25 yards.
This is simply incredible.

Hope i do a one hole group.:dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana:

I knew nothing about this pistol, after doing exaustive reading i knew i needed one.

I am a good shot, i could easily group under 1.5 inch with my Les Baer Premier ll at 30 yards, i will need some practice and getting use to.
Harry Callahan and i are member at the same club, if he is willing we could try side by side.:nest:

I remember the videos you made over 3 years ago with your Les Baer Premier II at the Ruisseau Noir, about 2.5" it was, at 10 yards though, not 30.

I shot my Prowler III off hand at a measured 40 meters (44 yards), ~2" for 5 rounds with three rounds touching into less than 1", target signed by a witness. Posted it on your same thread.

It's all here to remember:

1/2 inch at 25 yards every day of testing was happening up to 3 time and 6 times in the hole process of testing did the group was a single hole of .454 inch at 25 yards.

They are indeed accurate, "ultra" accurate is a pretty bold statement though. My Prowler III came with a .8" 10 rounds at 50 yards test target, I would define that as ultra accurate. Plus the fact that my 1911 as close to an inch less in barrel length & sight radius...

Those handguns are way more accurate than we are Harry.

In more than 450 accuracy test firings from a precision firing fixture, MK 23 pistols far exceeded the government requirement, averaging 1.44 inches, with 65 groups of less than one inch.

There were four groups of .5 inches, with 5 rounds going through the same hole!

This included firing with and without the sound/flash suppressor attached.
Three pistols were tested for accuracy after firing over 30,000 rounds, the specified service life of the pistol, and still met the new pistol accuracy requirement.

An innovative design feature, a high temperature rubber 0-ring on the barrel that seals the barrel in the slide until unlocking, led to this remarkable achievement.

The 0-ring lasts bevond 20,000 rounds and can be replaced by the operator without tools in seconds.

I've owned two of these over the years—they're a handful but even with my small hands they were manageable. With my post-cataract surgery lenses, though, the sights were hard to see so the role of "full size polymer .45" was filled by my FNX45. I wrote a review of the first one I owned here. I'm sure you'll enjoy it, Caramel!

In terms of functionality, no one can argue that a mk23 isn’t an exquisite piece of engineering art, but if she was a girl, you would describe her as having a great personality to be honest and charitable. The lines just aren’t there.
