The Mountain Hunting Thread

Thanks Phil! Appreciate the kind words, and Savage 110 all professions definitely have their highs and lows. One of those things all work is work, and it was time for me to happily move on to new work. I have a fork in my road too, as I’ve done two jobs through this, and run a small aviation business. The aviation is proving the better business for us, and for the family, though it too has its challenges to be sure. Less variables though, which is helpful for a young family.

And CoachZed, missed you there, yep sounds like you know the deal, all jobs are real. ;)

Now to get us back on track in spirit, excited to add to this as a guy hunting with his kids for the freezer. It’s at the base of the mountains due to the age of my eldest, but will be blacktail hunting next year with him, can’t wait.

I hear you, Ardent, and easily empathize with what you are saying.

My time guiding up here was some of the best days of my life. I am fond of referring to the Yukon as God's Greatest Effort In Creation, and no doubt you feel much the same about your mountains and waterways.

As far as the sports, I was blessed. They were some of the best people I ever met. I can only remember one guy who was a total jerk.

None of it, however, came close to the days with my son, and trust that those you are looking forward to will be beyond even what you expect!

Ardent, glad life is working out for you and I'm glad to see you back posting on the forums i always enjoy reading your posts/thoughts and seeing your pics. it was this thread that made me want to go to BC so bad, and I loved it there, your pics (and others) did well at expressing how awesome it is

so as i said in my other post (#403) I'm pretty disappointed in the amount of mountain hunting/fishing i got to do. i didn't get to do nearly what i wanted too. but here are some more pics from the trip. i tried to keep them on topic but my buddy got his ass kicked on the first hike so the rest of the time was not very adventurous.

the pics are driving through the mountains to get to more mountains, on a few hikes, fishing, stopping for coffees and fishing on drive out of the north and a pic of my buddy about 10 minutes before he informed me he cant go any farther(this was on the first adventure in telegraph creek about 8 kms in) , i can really see in this pic that we was trying to figure out how to tell me he cant go any farther.

i plan to go back next summer for 10 days ill probably go alone so there is nothing holding me back but myself.

This was opening morning of sheep season 2020. We spent the night in the open like that due to good weather. Good luck Ardent, change is good. I recently quit a 10 year career at the railway. Lots of things at play but once I took the leap it has been great. I honestly regret waiting so long. My hunting is my life and it has always been my main hobby. I had a chance to go guiding years ago but I never jumped at it. In some ways I am glad because my hobby is a break from reality, a time to recharge.

In 2019 the planets aligned to give me the chance as an Ontario resident to participate in B.C.'s Permit to Accompany program. A good friend was now a B.C. resident and a mountain goat tag in Northern B.C. was available through the system.

As part of my research I reached out to Ardent through his Wild Coast Outfitting Instagram page. He was extremely helpful and genuinely interested in my trip planning as it unfolded - all from a hunt that he would literally make $0 from. His info definitely played a role in the overall success of my trip, including the taking of a billy.

Here's to great hunting adventures afield with your family in the future.

Thanks guys, 156621 that’s awesome, and you’re right about keeping your escape, your escape. Will definitely keep sharing, a lot of moving water fishing is on the docket for spring and summer, unexplored creeks in the utter middle of nowhere. Found a great Chinook stream in Sept it’s a safe bet has never been paddled for its full length, if at all before. Will be sure to work the camera shutter a good deal.

Buckchaser I was, and remain stoked for you! Was great seeing it come together for ya, and too cool. Love that seeing that happen.
